The rich who own EU Commission, for obvious reason, don’t want to tax the rich. Consequently, there is an entire ocean of dire obstacles to implement it.
In contrast to a tax like CBAM which could be easily passed to common folk which can be agreed overnight.

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but if we would just tax billionaires as much as possible, won’t they just move to other countries then? And then they won’t pay any european taxes at all.

Don’t get me wrong, they probably should pay more taxes but we shouldn’t overdo it either.

Simple answer, but that is the thruth. Its not a priority agenda for Denmark during this EU presidency. Its main objectives these 6 months is EU competiveness. Climate. Immigration/Asylum. Ukraine. Defense. Energy security.

For Denmark to campaign for general EU taxation of individual member states citizens would massively contradict decades of Danish attitude towards EU claiming taxes.

billionaires are a political threat to freedom, this is not just about the economy or taxation. Look at the Russian oligarchs that finally ended up supporting a fascist like Putin, or Trump, Elon Peter Thiel, and all the other billionaires hollowing out over time and finally destroying American democracy. It is being on the knees of these modern day pharaohs, or being free peoples in control of our own destiny! Tax them to oblivion, disempower and abolish them like we abolished and disempowered the feudal lords.

No. That’s not in our goals and would never get a majority. Not to mention Mette wants her money first, so she won’t tax herself more out of some change of heart.
