    1. I hope he looks for compensation for the damage done to his property. Parents should be held responsible for their kids and they might finally try to control them. Actions have consequences…

Little scrot probably deserved. Would like to see people in Dublin stand up to the little thugs more.

    3. >She said a medical report said the boy suffered a head injury, loss of consciousness, bowel incontinence and injuries to his arms and shoulders.

      >“He lost consciousness for a while. He must have been hit multiple times in order to have sustained as many injuries as he did in the various locations you can see in the photos taken on the night and following day,” she said.

      >On Friday, the jury was also told that the boy that Mr Gilligan is alleged to have assaulted sustained a fractured bone in his left hand.

      >Medical reports from October 2023 show that the boy on examination also had a 2cm wound to his right forearm, a 2cm wound to his right shin, bruising to his right shoulder, while medics also believed that the boy lost consciousness briefly earlier on October 5th, 2023.

      >The boy’s hand was placed in a splint, and he was advised not to engage in contact sports for one month after its removal later on October 20th, 2023.

      >Photographs of the boy’s injuries were also shown to the jury along with the muck-stained clothes that the boy was wearing on October 5th.

      >He said: “Once they (medical staff) started cutting his clothes off him, they were finding more and more injuries.”

      >He said: “They found he had soiled himself, which led them to believe that he was unconscious at some stage.”

      >The father said that his son “had a swollen hand and he was limping. He was talking quite fast as well, and he was pale, so I imagine adrenaline and shock.”

So if I’m reading the last few reports correctly, the young lad and his mates broke into the building, trashed the place and lit a fire inside it. The young lad in question has fallen off his bike earlier and then told everyone that his injuries were from getting slapped around by Gilligan with a stick/hurly.

    5. >In his closing speech to the jury on Monday, counsel for Gilligan, Patrick Whyms BL said in no way is Mr Gilligan trying to suggest that he was entitled to punish the boy as was suggested and said that the injuries sustained by the boy “are clearly regrettable”.

Well, it is acknowledged that he “punished” the boy and there were injuries, so how was he found not guilty? It goes on to say he was unaware the 12 year of was a child, but that still isn’t a defence, is it? Unless the jury thought he acted in self-defence, thinking he was defending himself, against an adult?

I’d still be avoiding him if he has a hurl/stick in his hand, better to air on the side of caution

Sensible decision. If more scrotes got a kick up the ass like this when they deserved it, I’m sure we would have less out-of-control delinquints running around our communities.

Good stuff. If you catch somebody on your property uninvited the law should allow you to inflict injury to protect your property. It’s common sense.

It seems that public opinion is shifting (finally) on the whole “he’s just a child” thing.
Hopefully, we can get some sense in how much a person can do to defend themselves or property against feral twats.

Not surprising but a terrible decision. Someone who can beat a child that badly is a danger to society.

Getting a flaking is far cheaper form of the therapy than many others. He tried to set a hotel on fire.

If more little young pups got the same medicine it might do a bit of good. The right decision. 12 is young enough to know that setting a place on fire is a bad idea.

Queue all the legal experts who apparently know better than the jurors who scream conspiracy because Gilligan hurled.

I’m delighted for Gilligan, he stood up to scumbags who were breaking into his property and wrecking the place. More power to him.

I suppose this is what happens these days when an increasing feral underage element act and carry out adult level criminal activities but the system will only treat them like kids when they’re caught….. no fair on victim. can’t have it both ways and if justice system doesnt address it then “natural justice “ system steps in and sorts it…..jury stood for natural justice, I suspect judge in how he charged them instead wanted them to consider legal justice system …. Maybe he’ll think twice now about next time he has a chance to vandalise or attack someone ….

    14. He should make a complaint to the Gardai about breaking and entering, criminal damage and attempted arson. Considering they admitted to it in court it should be an open and shut case… although the judge would probably give them a slap on the wrist…. I’ll see myself out

A grown man beating the shit out of a 12 year old is nothing to celebrate. Scum bag behaviour.

    16. Remote-Interview-521 on

Good. Man has a right to defend his property from wee shitbags.

Probably shouldn’t have All Ireland stars on trial in the their own county. Just a thought.

I will just say that Niall Gilligan admitted to causing what were extensive injuries to a primary school aged boy,  and that the defence’s argument was proportional self-defence.

I get that there’s context,  but much like the Ulster rugby rape trial, being acquitted of the criminal charge does not mean that we cannot judge how he acted from a moral standpoint. Anyone who would hit a boy that young that hard and that much is not a good person.

The right result. Ireland has a bug problem with some of its youth and that needs to be addressed.
