what can be done to help? my first thought reaction would be to phone up the garda station and ask why they are acting like this but i feel like that probably wouldn’t be productive to the situation. contacting local TD’s? maybe I’m not thinking about this right but is there something better we could do?

Animal abuse in Ireland just isn’t taken seriously at all unfortunately. It’s very upsetting

    3. The guards seem to be able to pick and choose what they actually enforce and this is what they choose? But ignore rampant drink driving all over the country.

Something similar happened in my sister’s local village, but was a cat…after the cat was returned to the owner, it ended up “missing” within a few weeks…

I feel guilty when I am 30 minutes late home from work for my 2 dogs, we have a family member who visits for 2 hours during the work day, so they are on their own for about 4 hours of the day, in blocks of 2 hours…

The owner ought to be named and shamed. They’re not suddenly going to treat the dog like royalty.

    6. ItalianIrish99 on

Foundation should have made a criminal complaint against the owner before, during and after seeking to intervene – section 12 Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 as amended

The garda in question should be named and shamed here. Newspapers should be writing about the enablement of animal abuse.

Would it be worth reporting it to the ISPCA who have a mandate to prevent animal cruelty and inspectors who can investigate outside of the Gardai?

This is the kind of shit that whips me in totally bad type of anger. Mad sadistic animal abuser guards, need to be reported somewhere.

    10. vinceswish on

I’ll cry, how is this still possible? I’m not from Kildare so which TD do I need to email to? Name and shame all the people involved in animal cruelty.

Jesus, the poor pup is literally skin and bones. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from both the guards and the owner.

But at least the guards protect this country from some lad with a gram of weed in his pocket, right?

    12. GigglingGooseReturns on

We need to send this to RTE, newspapers get it out into the public. This is shameful and heartbreaking.

This is literally watching someone murder an animal.

    13. SpareZealousideal740 on

Guaranteed the abuser is probably a friend or relative of some Garda and that’s how they got it back.

    14. FatherlyNick on

What I am surprised by is how did Garda get involved? A brick through your window is a ‘civil matter’. So how is this not a civil matter – neglected dog actually being looked after by someone.

    15. Minions-overlord on

Animal foundation now knows that dogs like this should mysteriously “escape” before the gards show back up with the warrent.

“Sorry gard, there was a hole in the fence and the dog ran off”

      Edit missed word

Evil bastards. Gardai…shame, those sub humans should have been prosecuted, but o guess there’s more justice in hunting expired car tax and insurance, right?

    17. FantasticMrsFoxbox on

That’s so painful looking the poor dog. I don’t understand I thought animals who were neglected could be seized. Would the rescue be able to go to DSPCA for backing to get help retaking the dog to save it’s life?

    18. SoloWingPixy88 on

Why didn’t Garda seize the animal? Why did they back the owner?

    19. ShazBaz11 on

What a sick joke. There should be laws protecting animals in cases of neglect and an animal abuser register. Disgraceful.

    20. fruedianflip on

The classic irish attitude of “ah sure she’ll be fine”

    21. sarcasticseawitch on

It doesn’t make sense that the owner would want her back when they don’t even take care of her? Why would they not just let her go since they can’t/ won’t provider the care she needs?

    22. GasMysterious3386 on

Gardai need to be filmed saying that they think a dog in that condition is better off with the people who put it in that condition. Then that video needs to be posted all over social media. Fuck the people who abused this dog and fuck the Gardai that are supporting this.

    23. Pabloes12 on

The Garda are hands down one of the most scummy police forces in Western Europe. Closely followed by the PSNI

    24. Separate-Sand2034 on

Guards are useless. Glad they’re struggling to get new recruits
