2 billion a year to Ukraine forever though…..

lets cut aid to both and focus on the UK perhaps

    2. Thandoscovia on

Africa is more prosperous than it has ever been. Why would they want the imperialist colonising UK to continue to tell them what to do?

They’re proud to stand on their own two collective feet

    3. Rhinofishdog on

      This is OUTRAGEOUS!!!

How can the UK abandon it’s colonies!!! We must support the colonial governors!!!

Oh wait, sorry, I thought it was 1925, my bad….

    4. No_Atmosphere8146 on

Well yeah, it’s not the 80s any more. Won’t be long before the Massai Warriors are releasing a charity single for impoverished Brits.

    5. OinkyDoinky13 on

Best to make the poor poorer. There’s just no where else to raise funds.

    6. Capital-Wolverine532 on

Is sanity coming to the UK government? Or, is it being re-directed on the QT?

The truth is we are in a debt hole that is getting deeper, not less. We, truly, can’t afford to be magnanimous with taxpayers money any longer

    7. ReligiousGhoul on

I mean, now we’ve all been informed how insidious the “white saviour” complex is, this seems only fair?

    8. EvilTaffyapple on

One of the side-benefits of aid is to raise the standards of living in foreign countries so they don’t feel like making the journey to live in the UK.

People who want to cut foreign aid are so fucking blinkered they don’t understand that a rising tide raises all boats, and their country being dragged out of poverty will mean less people leaving due to poor living conditions in future.

    9. grrrranm on

Can’t afford to look after ourselves let alone others country’s

    10. Rakana3223 on

Eventually, the UK started to realise that it needs to focus on itself if it does not want to end up begging other countries for food. You can not feed your neighbours’ children if your children are already starving.

    11. Fantastic_Sympathy85 on

This is good, I mean not great, but, they won’t get anything either if the UK goes bankrupt. So let the UK get back on its feet (if it can), and then we can pick it up down the road. Can’t be sending money to Africa when children at home are starving

    12. AstronomerAdvanced37 on

nothing to worry about, when they arrive here by boat they will get 4 meals a day.

    13. Alive-Turnip-3145 on

I’d much rather my tax money went where it could do the most good. Imagine a zero tolerance illegal immigration policy… that would free up £6bn. Here that _”helps”_ about ~40,000.

Aboard that could provide fresh drinking water, food, vaccines and education to hundreds of thousands.

For those who see this as a bad thing: much of what’s called “foreign aid” is often tied to military support packages or strategic interests, not genuine humanitarian assistance. In many cases, it ends up fueling conflict rather than helping local populations.

Across Africa, there’s growing resistance to Western involvemen, many Africans are actually glad to see foreign powers stepping back. Just look at how countries like France and the U.S. have recently lost control over gold mines and aviation contracts. These aren’t isolated incidents; they reflect a broader shift.

Africans are increasingly rejecting foreign influence because it has often been more about control than support. The so-called aid was less about lifting nations up and more about keeping them dependent.

If you want more context, research recent events in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. There’s a clear message: Africa is redefining its own path, and foreign aid cuts might actually help, not harm, in the long run.

This shift may create inflation, but we should never have expected to get products so cheaply in the first place without the exploitation that made it possible.

    15. Alex_Zoid on

The world wanted the west to pull out of African countries anyway, why are people complaining? This is a huge win for everyone!

    16. Spamgrenade on

Foreign aid is one of the things that help people stay in their own country rather than emigrating for a better life.

    17. No-Strike-4560 on

People cheering this don’t understand what foreign aid is for. It’s not just to ‘be nice’. The whole point is we help nations support themselves so the people don’t get so desperate they wind up turning on our doorstep looking for asylum.

    18. moritashun on

im just gona say, if we as a country cant feed outselfs, why are we handling out aids to other? prioritise its own ppl first

    19. RafaSquared on

Makes sense, foreign aid should be zero when there’s people here struggling and living in poverty. Sort your own house out first.

    20. throwaway1948476 on

Good. We shouldn’t be interfering anyway. Let them get their own houses in order.

    21. Africa with aid: Colonial oppression!!
Africa without aid: Save us oppressors!

    22. SamePlane7792 on

I know a guy who worked out in South Sahara clearing mines, one of the charities built a well in a village there for clean water, less than a week after it was built the villagers killed a woman from their village and threw her body into the well, immediately rendering it unsafe to use, this is one of the problems with sending money to places where they are potentially 100+ years behind us.

    23. Resident-Shock6527 on

This is outrageous. Our pensioners could work another 5 years and our disabled can survive without benefits.

    24. the_smug_mode on

I don’t get it – I thought the UK was built by Africans? Why didn’t they bother building Africa?

    25. Adorable_Pee_Pee on

Foreign aid is just money we use to bribe other countries into doing what we say obviously the home office has decided certain parts of Africa are not worth the money we are giving them. This money would never have seen poor people so I am entirely unconcerned with them cutting it

    26. mars-jupiter on

Things will be tight for corrupt politicians and generals for the foreseeable then

    27. Maleficent_Syrup_916 on

They can have their aid when they take back all the immigrants.

    28. SupremoPete on

Its about time they improve their own countries. They have had so much aid over the last few decades and shouldnt expect it forever

    29. Serifini on

I’m confused. Isn’t this what the people complaining about the white saviour complex wanted?

    30. Cundan666 on

Leave other continents alone, no need ro interfere. Just give fair price for the rare earth, Raw materials and other products e and do not interfere in Their politics. They will find a better way out. They were there before all colonisers and will be later.

    31. Narquilum on

They always tell us how they dont need our aid and can do fine on their own, so I see nothing wrong with this

    32. TheWorstRowan on

I’m sure this will help reduce emigration towards the UK.

    33. We’ve more than made up for any possible “colonialism” and frankly, nothing is ever improving on that continent and we need to be looking after our own first. By our own, I don’t mean the Afgan man who came across on a boat who is bring 6 children with him either.

Once we have our own house in order and our own people housed and fed, THEN we can go back to being benevolent surely?

    34. Deep_Banana_6521 on

BBC trying to word this in a way that makes it sound like we’re bombing Nigeria by cutting aid that a lot of Africa no longer needs anymore.

They still need a lot of medical assistance, but the countries have better economies and GDPs than they ever did, the biggest thing standing in their way is the corrupt politicians, but that’s not a black hole that other government’s needs to pay for.

    35. what_do_i_know69 on

I’m glad to hear this. For example – India. Why the hell are we sending money to a country that has a literal space program? Make it make sense.

    36. Big-Mongoose-9070 on

We have financed a population boom which just needs more and more money all the time.

    37. Crazy_Reputation_758 on

Uk people themselves are suffering from government cuts so it’s not really a surprise.
