Absolute desperation from the marketing manager there.
The Online Safety Act is many things and will have many effects, but no way in hell it will mean younger people are going to start going to sex shops, and *certainly* not buying DVDs. I’d bet my mortgage on that.
This guy has basically just said to a national media outlet “our business is relying on aging and dwindling customers which aren’t going to be replaced, so we’ve got 5-10 years left in business at most.”

Cannot wait for them to go after the sex shops in an insane puritanical drive.

I drive past them all the time and there never seems to be anyone parked outside. I don’t know how they stay in business.
Unless it’s a front ? 🤷♂️

Given how expensive their DVDs are I very much doubt the average young man is going to be running there to buy any.

I’ve seen them and I always thought that “cocktails” referred to drinks and that people were stopping off on an A road to pick up a new vibrator and a couple of negronis.

I had no idea this was a thing. Surely verifying your age on the internet is far less embarrassing than being seen by your friends and family with your shopping bag and coming out of one of these shops?
Edit: I seem to of caught some flack. I would personally be embarrassed going into a shop for this. But then I have spent a lot of time getting porn out of my life (like an ex smoker in that respect)
I personally am glad there is a move to make porn less accessible. I think it’s damaging to society. I’m sure I’m in the minority though.

I drove past one once and there were 2 police cars parked outside
Said to the bloke I was working with “They must be stocking up on handcuffs”
He didn’t laugh and honestly I was bit disappointed

The three letters young people will be crazy about are not going to be DVD but VPN.

If Grandad insists on keeping his DVD player, there’s a reason.

I’m in the south coast and I’ve never seen a road side sex shop, I might stop in if I ever see one though lol

They may no longer be restaurants but porn mags in bushes are back on the menu.

I’m not against that either, but I am very much against the implementation because I think it’ll result in the opposite.
All people need to ask themselves is which is more likely:
– under 18’s suddenly watching less/no porn
– under 18’s using sketchy “free” VPNs, or finding their way onto the dark web, or seeking out the sketchier sites that aren’t implementing ID, or trading thumb drives at school with material selected for them
When I was a kid, at the dawn of the net, more than one of the “porn” discs being passed around had (whether it was real or not I’ll never know) snuff on it – I still recall the video of the guy blowing his brains out which was labelled as something like “hot babe gets naked”.
It’s just a poorly thought out, poorly implemented law all round. From what I’m hearing some in the UK are being asked to verify Reddit full stop – do we really trust the collection of biometric ID when we’re expressing political opinions etc
