    1. Hmmm…..leg sweep after already handcuffed? That does sound excessive, but I was not there, so I would not know what to make of this. Don’t envy the jury…..

“The jury heard that the complainant has 44 previous convictions, and ten days after this alleged incident, he kicked and beat a person after they had withdrawn money from an ATM on O’Connell Street, then went through their pockets”.

      What a shit show.

I am confused why the Garda had to sweep the guys legs from underhim when he was already handcuffed and the garda already had his hands on him.

    4. Only a young fella and already has obtained 44 convictions in his criminal career, I’ve no sympathy for the little scrote. We Need more guards like this man

    5. Ok_Imagination_9334 on

Honestly I can actually see why people in uniform don’t want to get involved in violence anymore and wait for it to dies down. This will cost this guard his job more likely or if he’s lucky? Just his career prospects.. over a scumbag with 44 convictions and later viciously assaulted a person at an atm and robbed them.. like what is the point??

    6. Legitimate-Key-3044 on

44 previous convictions, did a robbery 10 days later, resisted arrest, spitting at the guards….. and now he be awarded 50k and the guard will get locked up.

The guard would have been better off looking the other way, ignoring him and leaving him go around doing what he wants….

“In his statements the garda said he performed a “leg sweep” on the boy after the boy had refused to take his hands out of his pockets and had produced a glass bottle.”

People missing a very important point here. In lots of countries you could be tased or worse, shot for this. Complete shitshow and no wonder teenagers think they can do what they like on the streets.

Unless this Garda Murphy is a known bad egg in the force you’d love to see the Garda protest this with a strike or similar. This seems madness in light of the teenage issues the country has.

He had “produced a glass bottle” then “refused to take his hands out of his pockets” to I assume intimate he had a weapon. In this scenario swift application of force is probably advisable for everybody’s safety. Just a shame the one in a million happened and this lad sustained a head injury.

anybody convicted of 22 crimes and getting away many many more is anti social – what do out political overlords have to say now that the megre number of law enforcement officers are now the ones being convicted? talk about the tail wagging the dog, this one scrote is marauding around leaving a wake of victims and the arresting gardai is the one convicted!! – that’s the end of their career in the gardai not to mention a criminal record, if compensation is paid to the ‘victim’ then the goal of having the justice system work exactly backwards will be complete

    10. Lads in the comments defending kicking a handcuffed persons legs out from under them because the person was robber scum.

It’s the guards JOB to not kill the scumbags they arrest. That could’ve ended in death. Have a brain, the person being a geebag is par for the course with gardaí. What’s not is the Garda kicking his feet out with his hands tied. Yes you should damage your career over that- that’s entirely inappropriate and they deal with scumbags every day so no excuse.

    11. Jacksonriverboy on

The complainant may be a scrote, but the Guard fractured his skull. Not sure that’s a reasonable level of force no matter how you look at it.

Also he was handcuffed when this occured. That’s problematic.

    12. CyberCooper2077 on

This country is so fucking backwards.
      Give that Garda a medal!

    13. This is crazy. Everybody was the Gardai to be empowered to deal with the antisocial behaviour and this is the opposite

    14. Read the entire article. A leg sweep against someone producing a glass bottle is a completely reasonable use of force. Then the people wonder why the hell the Garda has recruitment issues even paying, counting overtime and other perks, the best entry level public service job.

    15. raidhse-abundance-01 on

I truly hope these jurors will face some of these scrotes themselves sooner or later

    16. blowoffthat on

Garda stick their hands down a teenagers underwear in search of weed and get away with it but somehow this 44 conviction scrote gets a officer done for assault. What even is the legal system.
