The Mercantile Hotel has effectively annexed public property!

Passed it the other night, it looked stunning! Mannix Flynn is never right about anything.

For those two reasons, I’m all for this!

It’s public space ffs. People using it should be encouraged.

Have they nothing better to be doing with their time?

You know, like fixing the massive property crisis, transport crisis, anti-social behaviour crisis and every other crisis that they have created that actually makes the city centre so fcuked up?

Are hotel security moving non customers away from the public area? that is the only issue I’d have with it if that is the case. Looks far nicer otherwise.

      > [Councillor Mannix Flynn said, “It’s a hell of a lot better than it was, and it’s a lot better than hoarding.” (October 16 2024)](https://www.dublininquirer.com/is-that-a-hotel-entrance-or-a-public-park-ask-councillors/)

Mannix was all for the idea until he saw people out enjoying themselves on it, as per usual.

The rose-tinted view of this space before the renovation expressed by some councillors is puzzling. It was noisy, dirty and gaudy if anything, and one of my last memories of the area before it was boarded up was glancing across while coming from Dame Lane to see a woman squatting down and pissing like a pregnant mare, apparatus pointed directly *at* the lane and any unfortunate passers-by, behind the bike rack. A quaint public park it most certainly was not
