The audacity of some people accusing us of using our vote as political leverage while Greece blocked EU expansion in 2004 to blackmail Cyprus’s accession. Now they are again blackmailing with their vote, effectively blocking EU from reaching a deal with a potential ally. This political farce is detrimental for the whole European continent.

      >but I think a Pro-EU policy is pointless and detrimental to Turkish interest.

the best chance for us turks to lead a stable, economically productive, healthy, peaceful, “good” life is for our country to integrate into the greater european sphere.

any other world power, whether it be the americans, russians or the chinese, will only be interested in turkey in the context of “reach”. we will only be an instrument for them to use when they need to assert their dominance in the region.

but europe? we’re neighbors. we have a mutual interest in keeping the peace in the wider region, which includes the balkans, caucasus, middle east and the mediterranean.

why do you think the eu expanded in 2004, accepting nearly all the countries in the balkans? any war in the balkans have the side effect of hurting european powers, and their solution actually helped the economy of each of those countries, not to mention the tension is at an all time low out there.

why can’t we do the same for the middle east? over in the caucasus russia and azerbaijan keep stirring the pot and making life difficult for all involved. and the mediterranean – the mediterranean is obviously the next step for the european sphere of influence to expand into, and that is hardly possible without turkey.

we have a chance here to be a strong part of something bigger *and* provide our citizens with a better, more equitable, less stressful way of life. it would be incredibly stupid to turn our backs to europe.

Europe needs Türkiye and Turkiye needs Europe, there is nothing Greece can do about it. All it takes for them come crawling is another Putin war close home.

when the us policy is to disintegrate turkey the only way possible to serve the us interests becomes betraying your own country.
