      So Yubo. Having anything marketed towards kids is a self fulfilling prophecy of predators will naturally flock there. At which point it’s more on the platform to put some level of safety measures in place but idk there were predators on club penguin of all things. Just sucks that the concept of a safe space for children online can never actually exist

      Any platform can and will be absurd. The only way to prevent people (of all ages but in this case children) to fall victim is to equip them with enough common sense and responsibility to keep themselves safe.

      Let’s just completely ban the internet, any devices with a screen, any item or object which could potentially cause harm, going outside, talking to each other using words, bathing naked, eating crunchy foods. Think of the children!

      Every fucking thing is “ban this ban that”. Stupid mentality a lot of Britons have. There’s a reason the UK is memed as either requiring a licence for everything or overregulating to the point where “memes on the internet” can get you arrested (even if usually the arrests are for hate speech).

      Who is actually advising these people?

      The logical fallacy that is “think of the children” is hurting the UK.

      Dating apps are already pretty toxic, so making one for teens or kids is a terrible idea on it’s face even if you can solve the obvious predator problem.

      You can’t ban everything, but common sense should tell you that this app would be an absolute hive of nonces. When I was a student there was a new university dating site just for students that needed a university email address to register on. That wasn’t enough of a filter and it was absolutely full of obvious catfishing scams and fake profiles set up by weirdos.

      I understand why this app is popular it’s like tinder but for 12 year olds…BUT there should not be a tinder style app for 12 year olds.

      There is no world where a 12 year old needs to place pictures and stats with the aim of casting a large net on complete strangers to attract a potential partner to then meet up.

      I’m fucking sick of the British people’s demands for every fucking thing to be banned, what’s next? Banning violent video games?

      If I’m Starmer, I’m just saying “We’re the government, we’ve got much more important shit on our plate without having to parent your fucking kid for you! You want us to pick them up after school, too!?”

      However, the idea of a dating app for teens does sound pretty fucking dodgy.

      I don’t personally see why teenagers being on a dating app is a good thing…

      They already have enough problems lol, mix in child grooming…

      But it is kinda getting ridiculous, with the online safety act, them talking about locking teenagers out of their devices after the government bedtime…

      Everyone talking about common sense and education must clearly have been born at the age of 30. How many of us exhibited common sense back when we were teenagers? How many of us thought we knew better than our parents did? How many of us did things we were not supposed to? Teenagers are idiots by nature, we all were, sometimes the government acting in loco parents is not a bad thing.

      I met my ex on there, we were together for over a year and a half and lived together for a year

      Insane that it was from that app😀but yeah it’s understandable, I’d imagine there’s a lot of weirdos on there

      I love Reddit lol

      Reddit: all parents are awful, they don’t know how to parent the children.

      Also Reddit: the state shouldn’t be banning things targeted towards children and the parents should be teaching their children better.

      I get that these 2 statements aren’t mutually exclusive, but if you believe parents aren’t doing their duty to children, why would you be ok with them being put at more risk
