If only we had a measurement system that didn’t require me to understand the size of Gatwick airport

> Thames Water still needs to submit a planning and maintenance application and if it all goes through, construction could start in 2029.
Again, it’s mad how long it takes to get planning done in this country.

I hope they invite Layla Moran to the grand opening.

I wonder if those same people campaigning for it not to be built, also complain when their is a hosepipe ban

I grew up near Abingdon. When I had not long started secondary school, Thames Water sent people to our school to talk about the plans for a reservoir. They wanted to know what kind of landscaping and level of facilities people might want (visitor centre? Watersports? Just walks and a car park? Etc). Some of the posh kids who lived in nearby villages had been coached by their parents to moan about noise and disturbance and house prices whilst construction was underway – classic NIMBY stuff.
That was when I was 12/13. I’m now in my mid-30s. And there’s still not been a single spade in the fucking ground. Meanwhile, Oxfordshire has a hosepipe ban.
NIMBYism will be the death of this country.

Reminder Thames Water losses 24% of the water they collect.

Thames Water sold off multiple small reservoirs.
