No one should be using Microsoft, regardless of national origin. They do NOT respect the agreements they sign, and will use all sorts of legalize to pretend they’re not openly violating the agreement in order to cut costs. As a prime example:
US federal government has a hard requirement for any presence on Azure (Microsoft’s cloud and Office 365) must be maintained on the Microsoft side by US citizens. Microsoft instead hired out engineers in China to maintain that US government presence in Azure, and hired US citizens as “digital escorts” to watch what the Chinese engineers did. They paid these digital escorts $15 an hour, and the vast majority of them knew anything about coding or what the Chinese engineers were doing, but Microsoft is adamant they’re operating within the confines of the contract because the Chinese engineers can’t login without a digital escort… Worse yet, Microsoft did this for US **classified** systems.
They knew they were in the wrong and never asked. It only came to light when multiple digital escorts whistleblew that they thought it was insanely dangerous and were afraid Microsoft would pin it on them when one of the engineers inevitably did something malicious.
NO ONE should be using Microsoft if possible… They don’t respect your privacy, they don’t respect your contracts, they don’t respect your data.

> Microsoft says it “cannot guarantee” data sovereignty to customers in France – and by implication the wider European Union – should the Trump administration demand access to customer information held on its servers.
> The Cloud Act is a law that gives the US government authority to obtain digital data held by US-based tech corporations irrespective of whether that data is stored on servers at home or on foreign soil. It is said to compel these companies, via warrant or subpoena, to accept the request.
Tells you everything really.
It may not have been such a big issue 6 months ago, but now?

One has to be beyond braindead to trust the USA or any American company with strategical assets or data. You can dream about the American benevolent friend all you want but for the past 20 years they have been nothing but predatory.

The EU should require that all computers and phones sold offer an open source os options with open source drivers and uefi.
This would not only take away the monopolies and privacy abuses, it would also significantly reduce ewaste

Meanwhile our company can’t host anything in the cloud if the data center isn’t physically located here and everything must be able to run on-premise within one day. And the brainfart execs go all in Microsoft, freaking bought every product they sell

Duh, it’s a US company. Just because Europe has the best relations with it doesn’t mean we should try it on everything.

Europe better ensures EU-based providers aren’t allowed to be acquired by US ones. It’s all good to use a local alternative, but then maybe months or years later a US company is allowed to acquire them.

That statement should tank the entire Microsoft stock.
God knows they don’t have a physical product or Windows product to fall back on.
What is demanding these high stock prices?

I guess the same goes for Apple and Google cloud services. Or any US based cloud service. This will have huge repercussions here in Denmark where Microsoft, and to a lesser extent Google, is pervasive throughout the government and public institutions.

Its funny. The cloud act went into effect in 2018 and only now, 7 years later, its trickling into mainstream concienceness.
Yes GDPR and the Cloud Act are in direct violation to each other. Each larger Organisation knows this.
This is why all companies should encrypt their data and own their onw encryption key. This was when the US demands the data the obliging partly can only hand out encrypted data.
No its not perfect.
Im angry that we dont have competative companies to many of the US companies and made ourselfs very dependent on the US.
But lets face it every 6 month there is another european initiative that also wants to build in encryption backdoors.
So are we any better?
Its Rich vs Poor. Those in power vs Labour. Those bastards doing great marketing convincing us that its Country X vs County Y for which we collectively fall hook, line and sinker and stop pointing the finger where it belongs.
