I never get why Austria stayed neutral. The Ruzzian regime has been sending spies and they often use Vienna as a transit for their propaganda and security undermining campaign. Thanks God Austria has finally concluded Ruzzia as the biggest threat.

You can’t be an EU country and be neutral towards Russia. Russia meddles and interferes with every EU country, that’s not neutrality

But is Austria interested in the defence of all NATO territory, or just the defence of Austria?
I wonder how many NATO members would really send troops if there were an attack on another member.
As a Romanian allow me to be the first to say that “this is not a good time for Austrian membership, let’s see how the situation evolves”. /s
I remember seeing a survey some time ago in which over 70% of Austrians expected other EU countries to help Austria in case it gets attacked. At the same time only 14% of Austrians wanted to help other EU countries if they were attacked.
I guess it makes sense from a very egotistic standpoint but it’s still frustrating to see.
Isn’t Vienna famously a hotbed of Russian espionage operations?
I might be biased but i would rather see Ukraine joining and only then austria, because there is already too many russophilic blockers (Vitya Orban and Fico come to mind first)

Austria? Maybe we don’t want Austria in NATO until it cleans out its banks, telecoms, and politics. Austria featured in all bar one fraud over €10m that I investigated; the racism I saw there was second only to Bulgaria; there were more Russians per square metre than Belgrade. And then there were all the proud 40+ yo Nazis…

I live in Austria and cant see that a vote for joining would be successful. The russian Propaganda was very effektive. (I would vote to join)
NATO is dead! Wake up, we need a European defensive force. The Americans are no longer allies.
Turkey and Hungary will block saying something about “past grievances or something” (I get why we’re stuck with turkey, but Hungary is dead weight and provide nothing but a security risk)
