Yes because it benefits them. Germany will do anything to save themselves and their auto industry. F*** you from France.

I too preserve my fundamental interest of feeling warm as I pee in the wind. It’s what I deserve for failing to prepare for the cold weather.

In February he talked about how independence from USA is his TOP priority, and how we need to spend on European defense only
In other words, the exact opposite of this deal he now support

I bet! German auto exports to the US used to be tariffed at, I think 25%. Now they’re 15%. So clear benefit to wealthy Americans who buy luxury European made cars (and clear benefit to German, and other EU counties who manufacture them). Not so great for the American auto sector.

German politicians have always been spineless. This isnt surprising.

Merz wanted a trade deal, the EU followed.
When do you rename it to Greater Germany?

I see how some people don’t like the “deal”. But I guess it is more about how it is presented, and Trump bragging and mocking every country he gets the “deal” with. Also, the whole world has to deal with him, and needs some time to change trade routes, so to say. US is a huge market, and other governments have to minimize immediate losses for their economies (because Trump doesn’t care about losses he inflicts to US economy). I think that all other countries will slowly restructure their international trade, and as they become less dependant on US market, they’ll push the US and impose their own tariffs. The next US president will face much weaker position of US in global trade and politics.
So, we just need time to adapt. And the deal gives us this time.

Well, Merz is a known big transatlantic supporter. Really all the pro EU independence stuff hw said he only said because the election of Trump forced him too, if Harris had won he wouldn’t even have said those things.

Neoliberals are gonna neoliberal, nothing you can’t do about it. Sadly you can’t expect them to change their ways, they’re always gonna side with conservatives over the people. And right now America is run by conservatives, so neoliberals the world over are absolutely going to capitulate to them if they want to keep trading with America.
