‘A recent survey by PlaySafe ID found that 42% of parents do not think video game companies are doing enough to keep children safe, while 60% of parents with a child aged under 18 are scared about the prospect of their child being contacted by adults who intend to do them harm in video games.’

Fair enough. We’re not ‘anything goes, suck it up’ America and we shouldn’t strive to be.

I love video games but many of them contain the most violent content of any popular medium. The games industry needs to sort itself out.

Oh my fucking god, if parents don’t want their kid to play an 18 rated game before they’re 18, then don’t buy them the fucking game!

Watch, fucking Labour are going to come for GTA 6, next!

    4. If parents speak out about what thier children see then they are exposing themselves as lazy parents. Good parents shouldnt need to worry and literally every device not running linux has parental controls and even then you can usually block any site with a quick tutorial without parental controls(which has been used to intercept and block windows data collection in the past)

Can’t wait for the first data breach of 5 million UK passports and driving licences!

      I swear..

This is just getting more and more out of hand. Already lost access to the online forums for my woodcarving hobby since the switch over(listed as 18 due to tools involved) and yeah, obviously going to impact gaming too.

All because parents are getting lazier and refuse to take responsibility for their own damn children. Christ, it’s not even difficult to do. Sat down both my nephews when they were first experiencing the internet and talked about what to avoid, and never go on.

Done same for my nieces. It’s not difficult at all, and the measures put in aren’t going to work, instead, just shutting down good places which serve a purpose all because arseholes cannot handle the pressure it’s their own fault for not interacting with their own children.

This is likely going to be more of an issue in coming months/years. Once fines started being given out many will just peace out.

This was the straw that broke the camels back for me with Labour…. It’s the most authoritarian law brought into the Uk in a generation… and it’s all being done with those most dangerous words “it’s for the children” it’ll also make a great censorship law in the event of a war….

You know who isn’t having trouble with the Online Safety Act? The underage kids that are watching porn — they’re not going to have any trouble finding out how to setup a VPN or resort to piracy, as that’s what they were already doing to get around the ISP level blocks forced by the *last* “won’t somebody please think of the children (but not think the issue through)” bill. So all we’ve gained is that now adults watching porn are *also* going to be using VPNs and piracy.

Should have called this stupid fucking bill the “Encourage Piracy Act”. 🤦‍♂️

This act is not about protecting children, it’s about control. The government was spooked by last summers riots and looked for any way they could find to try and crush the far right and that’s when the spotted the Online Safety Act, the act that was initially claimed to be able “protecting children from porn” actually was written as “Protecting children from inappropriate content” and Starmer being the legal professional he is realised the vagueness of that writing meant he could apply the act against “online misinformation” by making the argument that such information harmed children

That is why the Labour government with its majority government they spent months gloating about having has not opposed this act, because they see how the act can be used to try and crush their opposition in order to stay in power to get their 10 years of Labour

    12. the UK recently said “We’re dedicated to becoming a haven for games to be made in!”

“But we have the most loose vague laws about what games can or can’t be harmful even if they have an age rating on them! because you, dear user! you may be in your 30s, 40s or 50s! but even though that game says 18+! we’re going to choose for you!”

What an embarrassment of a country.

How to make sure your party is never elected again 101. This was started by Conservative and pushed over the finish line by Labour so both parties are to blame.
