Lol anyone against the online safety act loves Saville apparently…

    2. Aspect-Unusual on

What an absolute bellend (not talking about Farage this time), this guy should be sacked for makin such a stupid statement.

    3. RecentTwo544 on

Farage is a total charlatan and a looming disaster for the UK,  but this kind of utter desperate nonsense is just going to gain him more support.

Which is why I suspect the Telegraph published it…

    4. No-Beyond-4054 on

I saw this on the ITV news earlier. Very stupid comment for the minister to make. I guess everyone who is against a third-party website having your ID just so you can have a wank now supports Saville.

If you don’t support the Online Safety Act you’re a nonce fan

Of all the things to criticise or call out Farage on this has to be the most pathetic take I’ve heard from Labour.

Remember when Starmer was accused of not prosecuting Saville?

      Pepperidge Farm remembers

    7. PsychologySpecific16 on

Remember the outrage when similar was leveled at Starmer (equally moronic by the way).

I signed the petition to repeal the online act, and I circumvent it, so I’m a paedophile?

It’s a strange argument to make, everything he says the act has done, it has not.

    9. They are going claim links to a random paedophile over this, and not his links to an actual paedophile any other time?

The man is a walking open goal, but this is when they use harsh language – are they trying to entrench his gbnews cult?

I cannot begin to describe the magnitude of how badly Labour has absolutely fucked it.

In the span of a year, they somehow managed to make Nigel of all people and Reform sound like the sane ones.

People keep saying this is an own goal. Own goal is an understatement at this point.

They have to reshuffle and change everything imminently because this is genuinely getting embarrassing now. Not just for them but for me who voted for them.

    11. Diligent_Craft_1165 on

Labour are so out of touch on this. The people complaining don’t want to abuse kids. We just want our online forums to remain open and not close to avoid potential fines for accidentally displaying adult content.

I can’t even research scotch whisky on Reddit without a vpn. Labour have to go for this.

    12. skinnydog0-0 on

I’m not sure Savile was surfing the internet for child victims- so this statement is complete nonsense.

There are more than enough things to throw at Frogface, rather than this badly thought out attack.

Frogface is on the side of Trump, so no to dissimilar to supporting Savile, and this story is true and verified

    13. Underscore_Blues on

Labour may have lost my vote forever on this. At best for them I don’t vote for any party. Trying to brand people as paedophiles for not liking the OSA is dirty work.

    14. welsh_cthulhu on

Who in the fuck at Labour HQ thought this would be a good idea?

    15. Yakitori_Grandslam on

Government has gone full Brass Eye on this one.

I expect Starmer to be wearing a hat saying “Nonce Sense” at a press conference.

    16. TheFergPunk on

And here we have the big problem with this act. The discussion on it is dominated by this stupidly simplistic “well you must hate keeping kids safe if you hate this act.”

The discussion is being dictated by Helen Lovejoy.

    17. thealexweb on

      This is extreme stretching.

Also poor strategy from Labour. Bringing Saville up created the opportunity for Reform to remind everyone that Kier was in charge of the organisation that choice not to prosecute Jimmy no?

    18. hammer_of_grabthar on

Imagine being such an idiot that you’re in an interaction with Farage and come across as the outrageous and indecent one.

I put aside all of my misgivings, held my nose and lent Labour my vote last time round, and it’s becoming incredibly difficult to imagine doing it again in 2029.

    19. Adventure-Bench on

Average member of the public: I’m so old I can remember <checks notes> LAST WEEK when the internet wasn’t full of Jimmy Saville due to lack of mass internet surveillance

    20. jackd9654 on

Absolutely moronic statement, and really does just prove the reform point that Labour have no idea when it comes to this law.

The minister makes the point that predators reach out to children via messaging apps and this law stops that – no it doesn’t. The fact that the minister for technology is this inept is hilarious.

      Just an absolute shambles.

    21. WebDevWarrior on

I see all of the “characters” have come out of the woodwork.

People who know fuck all about the Online Safety Act (and have never read the whole thing through), it’s reach (beyond social media), what other laws it interconnects with (and in some cases contravenes), and what the end-goal is for this dumpsterfire law written by people who have no understanding of technology or the Internet stack.

I can’t wait for 10 years down the line when SME’s and individuals cannot create their own website because the cost associated with paying Ofcom, paying age verification software, yearly specialist compliance checks, and legal insurance (experts have estimated this to be at around £10k per business per year) will ensure no small operator can afford to exist online.

But hey, SMEs only account for approx two-thirds (61%) of total employment and around half (53%) of turnover in the UK private sector (£2.4 trillion) – I’m sure it won’t damage the economy if that fails.

    22. MissAntiRacist on

Minister needs to be disgraced and forced out of politics for such a pathetic comment.
You can also stop all child rape if you handcuff your children to your arms at all times when outside and we could enforce that by law. It does not mean that those who are against the law, want to rape children or are pro child rape. The minister is not this stupid, he is just evil.

    23. PhantomKernel on

Whilst I’m not a fan of Farage, he should absolutely sue for libel / defamation. What a disgusting and stupid comment. “Save the children”
