When deals are signed in one hour, it’s prone to confusion. Add the constant need to claim media victory and it becomes even worse.
——
Edit -: I think we should focus on what the actual agreement is rather than who won and who lost. Atleast let’s make an attempt to understand what EU has offered and what EU has NOT offered.
In my view any deal with unequal tariff rates is unfair. But I don’t think we can expect fair deals with US. We have seen this in all negotiations.
Having said that – it’s good to see that there is EU version of what they committed. This brings some clarity.

The best trade deals in the world make both sides think they’ve won.
And Trump is such a dumbass that he doesn’t bother to listen, over-eggs everything, and thinks he’s won it all all the time.
Let them say what they want. What’s on paper is what matters.

As an American, I would believe whatever is coming from the European side.

The Trump idea that general VAT is a trade barrier is a baffling one. Does the orange man expect EU member states to change their tax system, or that the same VAT percentage is applied in all the EU nations?

There is no positive spin for the European side. We capitulated on all fronts. While it might be an economical best case scenario, it is a political disaster.

The plan is to please Trump with shiny things until he croaks. Buy time so your economies are more prepared. The fine print will not have anything even close to the his language on it.

Is it actually legally binding? We also signed a treaty that should force the EU and the US to reduce emissions. And yet here we are.

When in doubt get the Trump version.
He just needs to raise the voice for VDL to say Sir yes Sir

That’s mainly because the EU and US have utterly different perceptions of reality. The lead fumed Hellscape one, and the one still wrestling with the realisation that their sugar daddy is a crackhead on lead fumes

Because it’s not a deal made in good faith, or even thought out, and it won’t be implemented or enforced. We go back to square one in a month or two, maybe sooner.
