What actually happens if websites with no UK physical presence refuse to do anything on age verification? Like what can the UK actually do? If it’s just blacklisting the URL they’ll just change it

The one I use still hasn’t got it. I have been waiting for something to happen…

They’re going to be non-stop investigating as new websites pop up every minute and most won’t even be aware of UK specific regulations, let alone have the means to abide by it.
Treating a global thing like the Internet as if its isolated to the UK is tech illiteracy at its finest.
Dubious-Squirrel on
It may be well intentioned (although I’m not totally convinced on this), but it also feels sort of pointless when it’s so easy to bypass with VPN.

I actually ran a check myself. All the sites that ignore copyright or sites that share fetish stuff just ignored it. Shit if you’re not following copyright why would you the UK?

As a form of protest I want to start spamming ofcom with reports of benign websites that contain discussion of violence, mental health, sex or anything else mentioned in the rules.
So that means most all of the central government websites, NHS website, BBC news, daily mail, most politicians personal websites etc.

This bill is the start of a slippery slope if allowed to continue.
It will be something else next, then something else.

Meanwhile websites just decided to circumvent GDPR rules with “pay to remove cookies or consent to data tracking” and the UK decided this was all totally fine.

Interesting how 4chan isn’t being “investigated” for failing to comply with their age verification rules

Can someone please list these 34 sites. Don’t fancy getting a wank licence.

Why? Joke bill, no one wants to hand over their ids to dodgy sites and companies who will sell it.
Ofcom go do your job and investigate proper issues.
This government are a fucking joke.

They made it harder to access the most popular sites. The irony is, that those popular sites are at least somewhat moderated, which means people end up in darker corners of the internet, on websites where there is more questionable content.

These sites will be hosted in some random country, what is Ofcom going to do exactly? If the people running them aren’t breaking any local laws then fuck and all probably.

This morning It took me 2 minutes to find an open site, nearly as long as I had the site open…..

I doubt some indy porn site run from a blokes garage in the Phillipines knows anything at all about a law on some little island north of Europe.

at what point do the nonce finder generals start investigating the BBC and the Catholic Church if protecting the children is what its all about?

It still boggles my mind that the government are putting resources into going after this…

are they going to age verify themselves before ‘investigating’?

Waste of resources tbh. Much more pressing matters in the country and the whole fu[Redacted] world!

Wiuld have been easier and cheaper to have parents install an app on their kids phones that cuts off/limits the Internet. And there ar many out there. But that would require parents to actually take notice of their kids and alot don’t want to
