A while ago, we fundraised for night vision for “Solo” – in [this thank you video](https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/1dkjlbe/how_excited_does_a_ukrainian_combat_medic_get/), he was clearly very happy!  Before the full-scale invasion, he was studying to be an anesthesiologist.  He is now using his medical school training to serve as a combat medic.  He has asked for help again for a video laryngoscope, which costs around $3400 USD.

Why is this needed? Sometimes critically injured soldiers have obstructed, or “difficult”, airways due to inhalation burn swelling from being close to explosions.  Maybe they have other neck injuries.  They may need immediate lifesaving surgical intervention at a stabilization point and need to be intubated.

A video laryngoscope enables medics to have a much higher rate of success on the first attempt at intubation than a simple, blind laryngoscope. A video offers obvious enhanced, magnified visualization during intubation.  Without it, if a medic can’t intubate using a simple laryngoscope, their last chance is to do a surgical intervention.

When working on a critically injured soldier, time is critical.  Getting the patient intubated can be a bottleneck in the treatment process so it is essential to do it as quickly and safely as possible.  Solo’s unit has updated treatment protocols to always use a video laryngoscope on the first intubation attempt but they do not have one.

Please donate to help Solo build his toolkit of equipment to save his soldier’s lives.  Go to our [PayPal](https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=CLFN53FZKSDY4) and select “Laryngoscope” in the dropdown.
