I wonder why a defense tech investor would say such a thing. Surely they dont have any personal interests in this field, right?

And how would she know? Most of military and intelligence service plans and inventory across the vast west and nato countries are completely secret. Even ball park numbers are just wild guesses.

She is just an investor in a tech fund and wants more funding.

    3. 1. NATO is certainly paying attention to what happens in Ukraine.
      2. Yes, NATO don’t want to fight like Ukraine and Russia does. We want to prepare for the next war, not the current war.

Yes, they are unprepared for the war Ukraine is fighting, but won’t be fighting a war that Ukraine is fighting.

Ukraine/Russia cannot capture air superiority, so they are stuck in drone/artillery warfare. NATO will have absolute air superiority over Russia.

It’s still great to prepare for a war like Ukraine, but if all of NATO gets involved against Russia they will not be able to stop air power. We’ve seen over the last few years that any country with air superiority wins the battle/war.

Well, the last time Europe was not efficient against the Nazis (remember, how quickly Hitler took over entire Europe?), so why count on it this time? Modern Russia is many aspects is a parody of the Second Reich, but for the modern Europe it should be enough

When the US went into Afghanistan they had no idea about homemade roadside bombs. US left Afghanistan without a victory. Likewise, US and NATO are now looking at drones and missiles that can get around the best air defense systems available. Military spending always stocks up on things they should have had in their last war, when the world moves on.

NATO (assuming we can even include the US here) will not fight the war Ukraine is fighting against Russia.

Russia would get curb stomped in any kind of war with NATO other than nuclear (mutual annihilation) so let’s not pretend Putin would be the one to start it. Say what you want about him but he is not stupid.

So what this woman says is:

      There´s a problem and we don´t have a solution.

The solution she herself proposes is… nowhere?

The drone warfare thing in Ukraine is developing so fast that countermeasures couldn´t keep up. I´m not a military guy but I´ll assume that much work is now going into drone countermeasures. Big systems like Patriot are not suited and too expensive against drone swarms, especially the small drones. Old systems like SPAAG´s are proving to be more efficient than big missiles against certain drones. Taking out huge swarms may require yet other solutions, be they physical or electronic.

But these things need to be researched and developed before you can roll them out in volume. Ukraine is doing remarkable things ad hoc because they have no choice. It´s better to do things more structured when you can.

    10. Defense tech investor will say noone is prepared even when everybody is twice prepared. It’s his job.

Same way building developers have claimed for the past 30 years that in Poland 2 mln flats were still needed.

And I am not saying we are ready for war. Just want to hear it from a non-defense tech investor

Early 2022 showed that Russia is terrible at fighting a mobile war, something that NATO has perfected.

Reality is the war in Ukraine is going the way it is because both sides have dug in to conduct trench warfare. NATO wouldn’t fight like Ukraine, because NATO is much more mechanized and has a big air force to rely on.
