Probably needs to be permanent. It’s not exactly a luxury product now is it.

Until those prices come down from all the green energy the vat needs to remain at 9%…
Are wholesale electricity prices in Ireland pegged to gas prices or is that just a UK thing?

Extended?
Our bills are fucking nuts.
I didn’t even know there was a reduction.

Hang on, there’s currently a reduction? Hard to tell when your bills are massive and only going one way, up.

If we’re doing vat reductions this seems a hell of a lot more sensible than doing it for hotels and restaurants

There should be no VAT on the supply of electricity to domestic customers. Absolutely stupid

i feel like capping the charges would work out better , this just means they’ll put the prices up, same as pubs and restaurants when they get their 9%

>Each six-month extension has provided estimated savings of €26.60 on electricity and €20.28 on gas for consumers for the duration of the period.
I’m really feeling those savings. Sure our bills may have gone up by about 100%, but that €8 every two months is really keeping the wolves from the door.

The government collect a sizeable dividend from ESB, VAT should be removed.
The stipend that were offered also are red herring sure they were just giving back what enabled the huge profits but still had some change.

Sure with the unit increase for me of 50% since 2022, they reduce vat, but the rate increase would mean they’re getting 9% from a higher amount. This is more than like very similar to pre reduction. They can bring the rate down to what is was before resuming the tax rate again

Vat on domestic energy is outrageous.
