ATHENS, July 31 (Reuters) – Slovenia on Thursday imposed an embargo on exports, imports and transit of arms to Israel, two weeks after it declared [Israeli ministers persona non grata](https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/slovenia-declares-two-israeli-ministers-persona-non-grata-2025-07-17/), the state news agency STA reported citing a government statement.The measure was announced by Prime Minister Robert Golob after a government session. Golob said that Slovenia was the first European country to make such a move, STA reported.
Slovenia recognised a Palestinian state in June last year and has since repeatedly called for a ceasefire in Gaza and increased aid deliveries to the enclave.Israel has denounced declarations last week by France, Britain and Canada that they may recognise a Palestinian state, saying that it would reward Hamas for its October 7, 2023 assault on Israeli territory.Earlier on Thursday [U.S. special envoy](https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/trumps-envoy-meets-netanyahu-gaza-aid-ceasefire-push-2025-08-01/) Steve Witkoff met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a bid to salvage Gaza truce talks and tackle a humanitarian crisis.

There is only one country in Europe that could make a credible threat on this matter to Israel, which is Germany.
A very distant second would be Italy, and everybody else in Europe is completely inconsequential in terms of the threat of an arms embargo. Especially given F-35 exports to Israel are not possible to be blocked unless countries somehow convince the US to impose an embargo or leave the F-35 program altogether.
