Hold that thought… in the last couple of days :

      1. The US just had extremely bad jobs reports, with increasing unemployment, decreasing labour participation rates, much lower job creation, and a restatement of the last couple of months’ stats which decreases jobs created by 250,000
      2. Hours later, Trump fired the person who published the above stats
      3. The Nasdaq dropped 2.25% in a day
      4. They announced 25% tariffs on Indian goods
      5. They announced 35% tariffs on Canadian goods
      6. Trump has threatened US pharma companies that if they don’t lower prices he will order more pharmaceuticals from abroad

It’s a *wild* ride over there, and half the things they’re doing could *improve* things for Europe.

tl:dr: It’s a bad deal for ireland *but* it’s a better deal than no deal, especially for ireland which is most exposed of eu economies to us trade, and therefore can least afford to deal with a trade war.

Just a thought but can we start to think about Irish society as well as the economy.

Genuinely might not be a bad thing for livability in this country if the economy slows a bit.

All of those jobs to be added would all require overseas labour to fill, adding further pressure on housing.

I just got done typing up something in thread about how bad stuff was in 80’s/90’s and then I come to this thread to find people saying economic growth should not a primary concern for the government.

Looks like Simon will have a chance in the next few years to prove that he’s not just slimy lookin man made of wet noodle.
