Morocco shouldn’t have been discarded back in the 80s

    2. 4Jade4Once4 on

Absolutely. Canada is right there in the heart of Europe, just a short 4,000 km canoe ride across the Atlantic. I say we replace Poland with Quebec and call it a day. 🇨🇦🇪🇺

I mean, joining is a big thing and seems off. So why don’t we just try to have special treaty between Canada and the EU to work closer together? Like way closer than ever before?

    4. transcended_goblin on

Maybe they should hold off on that thought, given that we’re becoming a surveillance state…

We wish. Well, a lot of us do anyway. I think after you guys made recent deals with el puerco our interest dropped a fair bit. Plus we kind of got the sense that we generally weren’t welcomed, something mumble mumble Eurovision

    6. MightyHydrar on

Sure, why not. They’re similar enough culturally, their prime minister is pretty cool, and we can use all the allies we can get

Losing UK and getting Canada instead would certainly be an upgrade. UK is resource poor, Canada is immense in terms of natural resources. I hope they join, it would be awesome.

Just incorporate it into France and call it outermost regions.

As much as I would like it, I just don’t think it’s feasible as although we are very similar, we also have quite a few differences. But, I would like to see my country (Canada) develop closer ties with Europe.

Canada joining the EU doesn’t really make practical sense. The EU is a regional union with its own geographic and economic challenges. Canada is literally on another continent.Plus, adapting to EU rules might mess with stuff they’ve already built

    11. Sorry canada, as a European i dont want to have a Schengen land border with the US. The potential of gun smuggling into the Union is to great of a risk

    12. Lorrdy99 on

Not even 50% of the people want it, so why posting it here?

    13. KingFrisia on

It doesn’t make sense and it probably wouldn’t work but let’s do it to spite the americans

    14. Western-Magazine3165 on

We don’t need non Europeans with different cultures joining, thanks.

I don’t want to join, but as close of relations as possible outside of that. I suspect many of the people responding to these polls only understand 1 percent of the implications a decision like that means and I think there would be a lot less yes answers of they had the full story.

This is more of an emotional response than a thought out one I’m my opinion. No offense mean friends. I just think that while Canadians would rather have European food standards and consumer protections, the losing autonomy would be a big issue with a fair amount of people here.

Like I said though, I’d love to continue to more deeply develope trade and movement of skilled labour as well as hopefully picking up a thing or two from Europe with food and other standards.

Let Greenland buy Canada. They are sharing a land border already. Then ask Greenland very nicely if they would like to join the EU.

This is so abstract I don’t even know where to start. Good luck dealing with Canadian dairy cartel and convince them to follow EU regulations

    18. patatjepindapedis on

How many layers of colonialism would this be if Canada joined the European Union? Maybe just go for an Arctic Union. EU member states could proxy for the EU

    19. Bright-Blacksmith-67 on

A silly question. Canada needs a relationship like Norway or Switzerland. Actual membership does not provide any plausible benefits for EU or Canada.

    20. Exact-Country-95 on

I wonder how that would work given that they can be pretty strict for not letting people in for certian crimes? Even Bush jr. had to apply for an exemption over his cocaine fueled car crash. Presumeably, Europeans with prohibited criminal history can easily skirt this if it’s anything like the mainland border crossing.

    21. svmk1987 on

Canada can be a close partner to EU without necessarily being in the EU.

    22. siberia60 on

I wonder where all those people who were yelling at me that this is a bad idea a couple of weeks ago on this sub are…?

    23. heapOfWallStreet on

No, It shouldn’t because Canada isn’t in Europe. Easy.
