Unbelievable. Americans now need a permission slip to come mispronounce ‘croissant’ and ask where the Eiffel Tower is while standing right in front of it. 🇪🇺🧾

Beginning in 2026, American citizens traveling to most European Union nations must obtain an ETIAS authorization. European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is intended for travelers from visa-free nations such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. When entering Europe, even Indians with passports from any of these visa-exempt nations must obtain ETIAS.

about time! Europe needs to get out of their “self-loathing tourist paradise” syndrome.

So basically everyone needs e-visa now (and pay for it which is the most important thing) to visit EU.

Honestly, this feels like a fair reciprocal move. Europe has been pretty open for U.S. citizens for decades, while Americans have required electronic travel authorization for many nationalities.

Are they also going to have that “Are you coming to the EU to commit a terrorist attack?” question? 🙂

People (Americans or Brits) who call this a “visa” or feel like they are being targeted specifically reveal themselves to be people who have never had to apply for a tourist visa. It’s just reciprocity for ESTA/the UK equivalent.

That’s a lifetime away in internet terms. Lol. But seriously, it’s about time everyone gets checked.

Good. They had the same system for us Europeans for years. Eye for an eye.

Add 250$ entry fee and right to refuse entry if given person support in social media Trump.

    11. Honestly just do a full visa regime, the less of them here the better

And if they show a JD Vance meme on thier phone at passport control, they can gain additional 2 day free extension to any European city.

Just built a Big Beautiful Wonderful wall on the European West Coast. Detain anyone who dares to criticise van der Leyen 😁

No only Americans, but pretty much everyone unless you hold an EU passport or are a resident here. It was supposed to start this year but it was pushed to 2026. And Americans should be honestly thankful, if they feel this is something done against them (spoiler: it is not), that getting into any EU country is honestly a lot less cumbersome than it is for any of us to get to the US. My first time trying to do Customs at JFK took 2,5 h, and last year in LAX 3 h! And they treat you worse than cattle, as if every single one of us is a possible potential illegal immigrant, I mean… please, as if I ever wanted to live there…!

Every year they say this and every year it gets delayed.

People here are acting like this is new. Just shows how uninformed and reactionary the average Redditor is.

Just a retaliation, but still more civilised than what the Yankees are doing to our people.

    17. NoQuail1770 on

This will be much better. It means you have your clearance in advance and genuine tourists can just walk straight out like they do in Australia. As they are already known.

Let’s seize their phones at immigration, if from their sociale feeds it is clear they are supporting the little Duce hit them with a 500$ fee to enter the EU.
