    1. Surely the orangutan will change his mind in 6 months. Surely, the colonial master will be kind.

All I have to say is that the EU has shown its essential character to the world this year, and not in a good way.

Europe deindustrializing and destroying their welfare states at the behest of the American Empire. Truly pathetic, but well deserved

A wise decision, so Eu, things will certainly be solved on their own /s

I hope that we will send a strong worded letter to Trump after 6 months. This will show him!!!

Won’t matter what the EU does. The US tariffs will end in May or June of next year. That’s when the Supreme Court will rule on them, and they are blatantly illegal. The president doesn’t have large scale tariff powers.

The US Court of International Trade ruled unanimously on this. The appeals court is hearing the case now, and the judges’ questions made it pretty clear they will uphold the ruling. Then the Supreme Court, which issues rulings each year in May and June. The justices are all likely to uphold the ruling, end the tariffs, and refund tariff payments to US importers.

Some might doubt if the Supreme Court will go against Trump, but take a long look at the relevant law and the conservative justices’ love for the major questions doctrine.

These tariffs are gone next year. No need for the EU to tax its own people buying US goods until then.

And here I thought we can’t embarrass ourselves more

It’s ridicolous that the EU allows itself to be weak even though we’re twenty-seven countries and 450 million people.

Six months? Come on, it’s abundantly clear that it’s forever, the EU has shown that it is incapable of standing up.

Is this one of those temporary things that keeps rolling till it becomes permanent ?

EU had an opportunity to lead the free world through this.

      >”With these objectives in mind, the Commission will take the necessary steps to suspend by 6 months the EU’s countermeasures against the US, which were due to enter into force on 7 August.”

Let him focus on other players whilst he burns down his own economy. Europe can wait it out. We dont have military or leverage, but we have money and patience.

All this does is convince Trump that his strong-arm tactics work. It emboldens him, rather than it does pacify him.

You simply cannot negotiate with a someone who has the attention span and emotional maturity of a 3-year old.

    13. I don’t mind not paying more for the few imported US products I buy so idc. Counter-tariffs would not make Trump change whatever is left of his mind, he’ll probably taco anyway.

I mean, I’m pissed at the “deal” too, but if you agreed on something – or, as seems to be the case, agreed to work on a final version of a deal – then suspending the retaliations while you talk it out makes sense.
