I’m very sure it’ll be great value and money well spent.

We should require all asylum seekers and migrants to attend daily integration activities in the UK so they don’t get too comfortable in hotels. A similar process is done with job seekers in having to apply for jobs each day during the working week so its not a pisstake.

I propose a 3 hour morning session focussing on LGBT rights, followed by a 3 hour afternoon session focussed on Women’s rights.

If it is not daily, it should be once a week say on a Friday

It would be a way to generate jobs in the UK so there is another benefit

These training sessions would be daily or weekly until the asylum seeker is granted a refugee visa.

They should then be weekly until they get indefinite leave

I believe some European countries do a variation of this, I remember watching a youtube video once of a women’s right seminar for migrants.

If this filters through the migrants back to the countries of origin, many would “dislike” coming to the UK and try a different destination

The genuine migrants that come and accept and agree with the training are more than welcome to stay

That would be a better way to spend the hundreds of millions of pounds.

You either tackle the problem at source or at destination. Tackling it at the middle in the journey is pointless, because the destination is still attractive. It will only make people more desparate.

Build a £100m detention center in a north Scotland uninhabited island with very little heating and processed food in tins and have them wait there for two years for their asylum to be processed?

Boats would stop by next week as word spread.

Just stop housing people and giving them money. Keep them in old bases. That’s the only way to disincentivise arrivals.

A family acquaintance was made homeless recently due to alcoholism and the council gave him a tent…

They’ll do anything but actually do something that fixes the asylum system.

They’ll ban online ads, run discouraging ads overseas, threaten to remove 50 people. Arrest some gang members who are instantly replaced.

Even if small boats were completely stopped. There’s still another 70,000 people claiming asylum and growing.

This may seem pointless but if it stops just 200 migrants from crossing then its profitable!

Funny how these figures are always nice and round. £10m, £100m, £1bn etc. Proof that it’s all bullshit

    8. ThatGuyMaulicious on

Just stop housing them and giving them free stuff. Give them the bare minimum to live and they’ll begin to stop coming.

Where do I apply to get my share of this money? I’ll be just as sucessful as whoever the government is paying to do this.

I looked at the article and can’t see…

      – Exactly what the £100m will be spent on (other than a promise already made days ago).
      – Over what period of time this extra funding, e.g. is this an immediate £100m or is it over five or ten years.
      – What other budget the £100m is being removed from as we’re led to believe that all budgets acre being cut?

    11. This and the last government have been announcing new schemes every week.

At this point no one cares. All they care about are the numbers which in spite of everything just keep rising.

Furiously buying up all the 4G-capable dumb phones they can find, buying room allocations at 2-star hotels. And condom multipacks. Yeah, that’ll show ‘em!

    13. SuddenSquib on

How about they spend £100m on fixing the bullshit laws causing these issues in the first place?

You would think laws are set in stone with the way they try to tip toe around issues..

Unless it’s the new wank license law.

    14. Top_Nebula620 on

Should just turn them straight round instead of wasting more money.
No passport = no entry, it’s a mockery on the citizens that pay for passports etc.

    15. bus_wankerr on

Maybe stop paying ridiculous fees to third party middle men and it would cost a lot less.

    16. Are there any statistics on the ROI for this kind of spend? 100 million spent stopping crossings will prevent how much in spend on housing/supporting migrants if they made it across?

    17. Alarmed_Inflation196 on

Always a sign nothing will change when they just announce a large round number that’s just big enough to impress people but not too big to get extreme scrutiny. Half the time it’s existing funding. Tories did it all the time

The solution isn’t to spend more money, it’s to spend less.

    19. ApologiseMeowMeow on

Just stop housing and giving away free money put them in tents they’ll stop coming soon enough.
