In the pocket of Big Potato, that’s Rayner’s problem

Playing straight into the caricatures that he only cares about allotments, Christmas train timetables, cyclists, Hamas, etc…
He just isn’t good at politicking.

Getting right to the heart of the nations problems is our Jezza.
I’m more surprised he isn’t “accidentally” standing next to a well-known antisemite or member of Hamas.

This might not be good optics for him but he’s got a point. Rayner is selling off all the green space for you and I. School playing fields / allotments / probably parks next.

We’re in the “having a look under the sofa cos there might be a quid under there” stage of being broke.

I’m not the biggest fan of Corbyn but we shouldn’t be selling off stuff. Especially stuff that is important to communities.
If anything these are the sort of things we should be encouraging.
This labour government is just a softer version of the Tories sucking up to big businesses and neglecting local communities.
Too afraid to actually protect the working class from the cost of living by taxing the wealthy. Instead they are selling off your granddad’s allotment.
Fucking commit to taxing the wealthy instead of taking more of our stuff away from us.

This country needs more social housing and it should be built (not here) and paid for by (somebody else).
Corbyns brand of student socialism is getting tiring honestly

Finally something I agree with the eternal 6th form student unionist upon.
Oh look, Corbyn fell into the trap the Telegraph/Conservatives set for him…
A handy reminder of why he struggled to succeed in national politics.

Somewhat contrary to the other views, I don’t think selling off allotments for housing is a bad thing on the condition that it has adequate density. Allotments tend to be a public good but affordable housing is more important then a select few having a grow patch.
If the allotments are being replaced with town houses or apartment complexes then fine but if it’s just so they can build detached or semi detached housing then no it’s not providing adequate housing instead.

Well they are a bit like a micro-farm so Labour aren’t going to be a fan of them, so no surprise there.

OH dear and the people claim the BBC is left wing, Tory/Reform committees in control of news and editorial in the BBC, quoting an arch Tory/Reform rightwing paper, sad thing people will as usual knee jerk and lap it up.

I voted Lib Dem to get the Tories out knowing Labour couldn’t win round here. I’m beginning to think my vote might have been for the right party. Selling allotments, when the benefits for community and mental health are beyond question is bloody daft.
Virtually every day brings news that we’d expect from the Tories. When is this government going to do the small things that have huge benefits at zero cost?

I have an allotment. I love it. It’s a private one so has fewer protections than council sites. Great community there but I’m not sure it’s a community asset as it’s gated and fenced off. It’s not like an open park where anyone can use it.
I also know that people need housing.
There are also solutions like allocating new allotment sites, though they would be further out.
