without context: why do they hate their “first democratically elected president post-communism” so much and are glad he died?
with context: how come no one tried to assassinate him when he was alive?

I’m going to the store in about one hour, could someone recommend me some champagne that fits the departure of the Tovaras? As cheap as possible, just like him.

For who doesn’t know, he was a hardcore Marxist but not a Stalinist like Romania’s previous leaders. He’s views were close to Gorbachev who they say he met in his youth while studying in Moscow and kept contact with him over time.
He was the head of the propaganda of the communist party earlier in his life but was marginalized by Ceausescu because he knew they were planning to overthrow him and kept them under close surveillance.
He didn’t kill him or the group because they were backed up by the USSR which was risky, but he marginalized them and gave them comfortable but irrelevant positions that were well paid but outside the big circles.
He set up the coup d’etat with his group (many of high military ranking of which Ceausescu didn’t know of) but wouldn’t have happened without the initial Revolution that started in Timisoara in December.
His faults: To have time, him and the group created a conspiracy to give the people in streets the impression there is a terrorist group that is fighting to keep the old guard in power. This lead to almost 1000 deaths post Ceausescu fleeing from the Party HQ until his execution on the 25th of December which ended most of the struggle against his criminal regime. Deaths were largely friendly fire between people considering each other terrorists and brining no benefit to the revolt.
He used typical methods for marxists to undermine initial oppositions appeared early in January 1990: very violent repression against any Pro-European/Pro-West stance after 1990 and used miners who were loyal to him, workers, police forces and the secret service forces against opposition leaders and simple citizens but nothing compared to Ceausescu’s orders before the 22nd, including ordering the army to shoot any hostile.
Ultimately his party was a continuation of the Communist Party in a more humane way which led to hardcore corruption, incompetence and all that came with it. He slowed Romania’s economic comeback by at least 10 years and the system is still thriving today in many ways because of the way he transitioned power starting 35 years ago. Many important politicians are still here and having influence thanks to his actions.
After losing elections in 1996 the country had to reset. Elections had a very clear goal: for the country to rejoin it’s western route and in his last mandate he did continue these procedures started in 1997 and joined NATO after the Prague Summit and set up the EU ascension that happened 2 years after the end of his presidency.

One of the greatest injustices towards Romania and Romanians is that this one died without serving a single day in prison.

FINALLY 🎉🎉🎉🙌🙌
I’m not overjoyed that he died, I’m disappointed that he died peacefully without spending a day in prison. Fuck the justice system.
Finally. I’ll sleep much better tonight.
_… and tramp the dirt down._
His death was more satisfying if it happened 10-15 years ago, right now I can’t even feel joy for this villain departure from this earth at 95 years.
