>No it’s not possible. It’s completely unrealistic. It is actually physically not possible
It isn’t impossible, most of these countries can be persuaded with enough carrot/stick. Tell the Taliban that you will recognise them as the government of Afgansitan in return for accepting returns, they most likely will. Tell a country that it will have visas rejected if they don’t accept returns, they will. Tell corrupt dictator of wherever that he can have a bung for every plane load they take back, they’ll be asking for more.
What prevents it more than anything is our own courts and judges ruling that we aren’t allowed to send these people. Trump has shown that you *can* just put people on a plane a send them somewhere else, it didn’t even result in people refusing to have relations or trade with America, Europe is still lining up to try get a trade deal with them.

Most of Farages plans are completely unrealistic. Those that aren’t are simple tax cuts for the rich, or even bonuses. Aa 10% discount for sending your kids to private school for example.

No surprise. Populist policy found out to be bullshit after consideration by an adult. Unsurprisingly lots of posts trying to justify a populist policy because it appeals to their prejudices.

Absolute grifter of a man who won’t solve any problem because that’s always hard work.

This “assembling” of papers is a concern. This is not due process. This screams lefty lawyers helping clients making things up to win their cases.
Cases should be fast tracked without this extensive preparation. Put the asylum seeker in the dock and they can speak for themselves.

I saw this interview which was interesting. What I couldn’t understand is his observation that unlike the USA we don’t have a land border with our neighbours. Surely a 25 mile moat is better than any wall that Trump could build and Mexico pay for? Does he mean that the US can bully Latin America more than we can Europe? He should have been pressed on this point but news programmes don’t seem to do this anymore.
FatSucks999 on
How to speed up processing? Reject every claim that was raised after an undocumented entry, and ban future reapplications for 10 years.
This would solve 95% of the problem overnight.
Once rejected you have a choice, either:
1. A ticket back to a choice of your home country, or a partner third country (like Rwanda).
2. Indefinite detainment in an offshore housing facility, that meets basic needs. You may leave any time back to your country of origin.
It really is that simple.

It’s not only unrealistic, it’s pointless. All of Reform’s policies seem to go:
1. Reduce immigration
2. [……]
3. PROFIT
Can someone explain the missing bit in the middle please? Even if Reform could reduce immigration significantly – which I doubt – how is this supposed to be a win for the country? Does anyone seriously believe that reducing immigration will improve living standards for everyday Britons in any meaningful sense?
It’ll just be another Brexit – “if only [today’s bogeyman] was removed from the picture things would be better!”
Why do people continue to believe a single fucking thing Farage says?

Treaties and international law is not without merit – it’s often done to draw a line in the sand or bring about some new “unrealistic” paradigm.
Similarly, removing yourself from treaties and agreements that were done by your predecessors under completely different stresses and concerns – is equally valid. No political agreement lasts forever.
It might not be the case that you can know for sure where they originated from, but for many you can and for those you can’t – have a new deal with a nation happy to take our cash who can house them whilst being processed. You’ll find that these 30 year old men will likely stop choosing the UK as their destination of “asylum”.
I do agree with Farage’s claim that as soon as this is enforced, it’ll take a short amount of time before the problem is almost non-existent. Then we can continue to deal with the absolute mess of the last 10 years.

Which part of the Home Office did that ex senior CS seven in under Bliar ?
That’s useful to know as the Home Office was, incorrectly attributed to John Reid, described as ‘not fit for purpose’ in 2006. In 2021, it became public that senior CS in other departments described the Home Office as ‘outdated’ and ‘completely incompetent’
Which suggests that this former Home Office senior CS is engaged in deflecting.

If senior civil servants are to be believed literally nothing is possible. They’re an entire class of people who exist to prevent anything ever being done.

First, the difference between sea and land borders is that sea borders are much easier to defend. Second, this part about not being prepared to do the sensible things Trump’s administration have because of “international law” and being against some current UK laws, is exactly the problem. Normington is a creature of the broken system that is failing us, he can’t imagine anything outside of that system. International law is irrelevant, we can leave any treaty we need to and UK law can and should be changed. It just needs political will to do the right thing and solve the issue.
“Sir David Normington: Well, I think there’s a great difference between the land borders in the US and the sea borders that we have as an island country. Also, I don’t think this government is prepared to do some of the things that Donald Trump has done. They would be against international law, I think, and they’d certainly be against UK law at the moment.”

So his entire argument is if we ignore the fact that reform wants to leave the ECHR, then their deportation plan isn’t realistic, because we’d still be in the ECHR.
And this is news?

We need to stop listening to people who’ve failed in the past and start working on solutions that are in the national interest. If we can invent so much of the things we take for granted in the modern world then we can also send paedophiles back to Pakistan.
