And I assume this tradition existed even before the internet…

    4. What’s the cultural significance of seagulls in Belgium?

I’m asking, because here in Finland they’re considered a deadly menace that won’t hesitate to attack you if you’re walking around with anything of value in your hand (= food).

Yet I was surprised to learn that seagulls are even loved in some countries. Maybe in places where food is less scarce and winters are mild, they don’t need to become aggressive bandits?

It’s a seagull imitation contest called the European Seagull Screaming Championship at café ‘De Verloren Gernoare’ in Adinkerke in De Panne, a small coastal town in Belgium close to the French border. It’s close to Plopsaland. The contest is quite new. It started about 5 years ago.

Was shat on by a seagull earlier this summer. It was warm, and splashed everywhere. Not a fan…

Now I wonder if there are also seagulls that meet to imitate humans?

Afterward they formed a big flock of seagulls for a charity race. And they ran. They ran so far away.
