    1. It’s infuriating how much public wealth was transferred to private individuals based largely on how much public assistance they’d already received. 

      A lot of people have been paying tax to provide an income, housing and then a subsidised house purchase to a select group of people while never being able to afford a house themselves.

      It would have been significantly less of a shit show if the money had been used to build replacements

      Because they sold at a sub-market rate, causing councils to lose assets/money. Right to buy is fine imo if its at a market rate, so housing stock can be replenished.

      Thatcherism has a lot to answer for, especially its hold over the Tories today. Don’t forget how much they undersold Royal Mail to pursue their ideological agenda.

      And they never replaced the social housing they sold, so now we have an entire generation forced to rent from the private sector for the rest of their lives.

      Wait, wasn’t that the whole point of it? Use of public money to help people buy a home?

      That’s exactly the sort of thing public money should be used for, right?

      Am I missing something here?
