    Good level-headed article.

Our refugee policy is full of things like this. It’s made to demoralize. Belgians vote right wing because they hear it’s so easy to become Belgian, so politicians keep trying to appease the right wing and find ways to make it harder, on top of Belgian bureaucracy that exists already.

I can recommend everyone to volunteer with refugees or hear their stories, you’ll be amazed at how little respect our country has for basic rights and for people’s time. People can easily lose many years in waiting procedures, between the streets and hour-long interviews where they try to find any reason to deny you without just denying you from the very beginning. I’m surprised the drug epidemic is not worse among asylum seekers.

There are 11 countries between Belgium and Palestine. There are countries that are much closer related to their own culture and customs. Why do western countries have to go out of their way when even the neighboring Arab countries don’t want to take in Palestine refugees?

Belgium already has received the most Palestinian asylum applications in the EU (more than half of all of Europe actually)

  4. I think that while most people are against what is happening in Gaza, most people are also against taking more people from Gaza to Belgium.

The government is therefore making the application process difficult while staying within the boundaries of the law. Nothing surprising there.

Palestine has nothing to do with Belgium so I don’t see any point of this article. Refugees should go to neighboring Arab countries like Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

Lets not forget Belgium has already taken in many people. If Politico wants to go after countries that really seal off and refuse any refugees, they can write about Denmark.
