RIP. Anecdotally ive noticed a lot of instances where parents are letting their toddlers roam freely away on narrow street pavements where cars are driving like 30+.
All it takes is one little slip, fall or distraction and a disaster.
I have had instances when driving where parents will cross the road leaving their children behind and the kids run into the road to catch up to them as the lights change.
Obviously this is an awful accident but I feel a lot of the time now parents aren’t aware where their children are.
When I was younger I had to walk at my parents side on the inside of the road and only there, and I never got into any near misses or accidents, all it takes is attention.
4 years old? Where were the guardians?
Unless of course the bus mounted the pavement I don’t see how anyone thinks it’s ok not to have at least eyes and maybe also hands on a 4 years old near a road/car park?!
I did read the article and see they are asking for more witnesses etc. so I won’t judge too hard yet but jeez…

Awful, always scares me as a parent when I’m walking with my kids. Especially when some pavements in this country are so narrow, and cards go so fast often ignoring speed limits.
On top of that cars these days are just getting ridiculously big so drivers struggle to see a child under their whatever it is Quad BMW electric thingy
Kids trip and slip very easily when they are young (I know I fell over countless times).
I was on the train yesterday and i watched a kid stack it on the platform (it was quite funny I’m not gonna lie) but it could have obviously been very bad if they fell on the tracks etc.
There is no info other than he got hit by the bus, instantly trying to place blame without more knowledge on either side doesn’t help anyone. Accidents happen all the time, even if you do everything right, it’s sometimes just tragedy.
Tragic, for all concerned. Parent, now grandparent, and you always have your eyes on them, and their hot sweaty little hand in yours. Until you don’t, for just one instant, and there but for the grace of God 🙁

Absolutely heartbreaking, although hospital grounds are notoriously hazardous for pedestrians. Very thin pavements, buses, ambulances, people circling round to find parking spaces and not really looking at the road.
I’m surprised this isn’t a more regular thing. Always hold my kids hands when we’re walking there.
The child “fell under a bus” just to stop the speculation that the bus mounted the kerb. Awful. Thoughts are of course with the family at this difficult time and the bus driver who I suspect mentally will struggle to get behind the wheel again.

Inb4 parents launch a campaign to introduce [Boy’s name]’s Law, new legislation that will put the legal responsibility for ensuring 4 year olds aren’t able to be hit by buses onto the hospitals and not onto the parents. It will pass through parliament unanimously with the support of all major uk newspapers.
