Wife is a nurse and she said you do see amongst some circles that management prefer anti union folk but then nurses by and large are quite pro union cuse of the literal shit they have to deal with.

There is a lot of apathy towards unions, until there is an issue. And then you’ll find some of the people calling loudest for the union to act – aren’t actually union members. So I can see where Forsa are coming from. Everyone wants the benefits but nobody wants to contribute. Forsa have a dental and medical subsidy scheme (you pay extra for it) for clerical officers. And they also do webinars for members only. But I do think they need to make it more attractive to join.

Does anyone know if the civil service unions finances are transparent and accessible to members/the public?

And is there a reason we cant index these pay scales to inflation or some similar metric to make them automatic

As i recall during the last crash Unions threw new entrants and the lower steps on the ladder to the wolves why would people want to be paid to cast aside ?

Forsa would do well to actually tell non members about themselves and what they are about FFS. Forsa isn’t an automatic opt in union, they do good work but JFC tell people what you are doing, who you are etc.. I didn’t even know until recently they where our union and it was HR of all people that told us.

They can fuck right off. Average wages increased 28% in 5 years to Q1 2024.They rose another 5.6% in the last year alone. Unions got everyone 8% over last 5 years. Useless.

They do very little to represent their members, but have removed all abilities of people to represent themselves.

Construction unions can’t even get deals to match inflation in a market “crying” out for workers. Never mind fair lodge and travel subsidies.

      They can fuck off.

Well, if that’s their thinking, I assume the unions will honour also this principle and compensate the non-union workers for making it harder to negotiate their own individual salaries, enjoy decent pension schemes and having to put up with shite work practices etc inflicted by the unions.

Calling people names like ‘free-riders’ won’t exactly endear them to those who they want to pay up . That’s school yard level stuff.
