The idea that Ukraine will ever give up any of its territory even via a negotiated settlement is hocus pocus. I think quite a bit of the “news” about this is russian sponsored misinformation. The more turmoil Russia creates generally including political dissension between various allies of Ukraine the better for Russia.
I stated in a comment 2 days ago: any negotiations without Europe and Canada at the table are DOA. The UK and Canada are 2 of the 3 primary UA supporters post 2014 with of course America.
Trump may give a state to Russia, that’s his. He cannot dictate about another country.

A territorial concession (beyond “currently occupied territory”) would open Pandora’s box. It’s a license for future wars, worldwide. And China will start with Taiwan. And many more will follow. Zelensky is a modern legend. Ukraine is Ukraine, all of it. Trump has got this so wrong. Ukraine fought off the supposedly second best army in the world in the first few days with molotovs, passion, ATGMs and a big dose of fuck you. This will not change but Trump and America could help to save thousands of lives and put Russia back in its box, whilst making themselves richer and their weapons even cheaper for themselves. Trump is definitely Putin’s sock puppet. Europe is stepping up, but Europe always takes its time. But once the momentum kicks in…!
Even if Ukraine would accept the loss of territory. The Russian “peace deal” also includes no NATO membership for Ukraine, no security guaranties, no more western arms for Ukraine and with giving even more territory to the Russians than they currently occupy, most of Ukraine’s defensive fortifications would fall into Russian hands without a fight.
Russia would rebuild its forces and then break the treaty to conquer the rest of Ukraine and then attack the next European country. Putin broke all treaties he singed in the past. There is no reason to trust him. It wouldn’t be worth the paper it’s written on.
The only chance for lasting peace is if the Russian invasion fails completely and Ukraine, with all its territory restored, is strong enough to deter future Russian aggression. Best case Ukraine would also become a member of NATO and maybe even more important the EU.
