The EU should finally grow a spine and stop rewarding countries with authoritarian governments for their antagonistic actions. Serbia has not had any kind of positive influence on the region or Europe, why exactly are we giving them hundreds of millions for environmental projects when friendlier countries would gladly take this? Why not spend this on projects in the EU itself, or if me must give it to non-EU countries, Bosnia, Albania, Moldova etc.

I really hope it doesn’t just end in a few corrupted pockets. Fixing corruption and democracy should go before all else.

How is it ensured that the money actually reaches its intended destination and doesn’t end up in the pockets of Vučić and his corrupt government?

      …aaaaand it’s gone.

But look, we built a park! There is even benches for the poor to sit on.

In all seriousness, like it or not, aid is needed to keep Russian influence away. I remember when Australia cut funding to South-Pacific islands…Oh hi China.

It‘s Serbia. That money is gone before the EU even clicks „send“.
