So they get fined for overzealously moderating and fined if they don’t moderate to Ofcom’s standards around content that is considered 18+.

Seems like a lose lose, the regulator has essentially just created vague guidelines and dumped them on companies to figure out, because they don’t know the answers themselves.

      > The Science Department, which oversees the legislation, told companies they could face fines if they failed to uphold free speech rules.

WTF are ‘the science department’ that this article cites?

And how exactly do they ‘oversee this legislation’?

Or is the Torygraph making up stuff, yet again?

    3. Vladimir Futon dictating free speech here when they don’t have their own house in order 🙄

    4. Seems like the only solution for the social media companies is to pull out of UK such that they won’t be fined by Ofcom? This is getting more and more ridiculous day by day.
