It’s going to turn into a massive urban / rural divide.
If you’re in one of the larger cities you can live at home and get a wide choice of programmes and decent universities – if you’re not you’re going to be very limited by family income.
It’s a pretty ludicrous situation that we gave huge tax breaks to student accommodation which were hoovered up by speculators charging insane room rates and we never bothered building enough of it.
There should be very large scale university housing for undergrads, postgrad, researchers and also for staff at this point too.
It would take huge amounts of stress off college and also be a big load of people taken out of the housing market.
