The council had no option but to act, caught between a rock and a hard place..

Insanity! Dalkey Quarry is almost unique in Europe in being a climbing crag within a capital city easily accessible by light rail. It’s an incredibly rare and valuable amenity for adults and children. Closing it like this is just madness. Just about everyone climbing there is already insured by MCI and safety is a massive deal within the climbing community so I don’t know what their beef is.

Oh good God. Every day I’m given yet more reason to loathe the people who run our country (in this case DLR county council, of course).

    4. Well…obviously, all the climbers, with all their equipment, will just turn around and leave because of that sign…..obviously…..

Pity they’re stopping it, seems like the country needs to be bubble wrapped in some civil servants minds. Remember going there for a rock climbing outing in sixth class. Was great fun, though abseiling was terrifying compared to holding the rock to climb back down.

Ah yes, signs, notorious for being highly effective, same as those “pick up after your dog” signs. /s

If they put the signs in the right place they will make excellent anchor points!

Ah jaysus did someone fall over and sue somebody?

    9. The amount of people missing the central issue is shocking. They have to post the signs and appear to be trying to deter climbing, for liability reasons. The answer isnt to force them to continue to allow climbing, its to ban the spurious lawsuits(which would fix many other issues in society). If you engage in a clearly risky activity, on public land, the responsibility should fall entirely on you, and there should be no legal mechanism by which you can sue for injury or malady. If you do the same on private land, you similarly should have no recourse to sue, plus the law should insist that you have the maximum penalty for trespass imposed on you. We either cut this spurious litigation culture out completely, or we will continue the slow disintegration of everything great about our culture and society, in the name of “safety”.

Something has gotten into DLR council this last month, A years old established event i go to on killiney beach for charity every full moon has been cancelled by the council a week before the day also, citing local complaints about parking, I think the local community are potentially emailing about everything happening and getting everything stopped
