Sending love from northern Ireland sitting at a 12.7bl deficit

Let’s tax the middle class more to increase the benefits -until everyone is either rich and leaves or there’s no more middle class so their cashcows themselves need benefits

Perfect example of how raising taxes doesn’t work. No matter how much you give the government they will always spend it all and then come back for more.

For reference, the deficit is now £26bn, or roughly £5000 per person per year.

EDIT: Typo on the per capita figure, thanks to those who spotted it.

Head on over to r/Scotland to hear how GERS is a fraudulent Westminster plot to deceive the Scottish public and drive down support for independence

This is a hangover from bad populist based decisions made by the SNP over the past decade, mostly refusing to implement cost saving the rest of the UK took, without any coherent funding plan for that increased spending. The current devolved administration is on a better track, but turning around public finances takes time.

Can the rest of the UK have a vote on their independence?

Good thing a country doesn’t operate like a household budget and, frankly, a deficit like this is largely inconsequential

Who is running up this deficit, Holyrood or Westminster? Holyrood does not appear to have the power to borrow anywhere near these sums.

Why is the independence debate framed as some ‘victory’ for Scotland?

I’d boot out all the parasite nations of the UK and set up immigration rules that treated them as any other country.

Why are English tax payers paying for you? The f*ck I care what happens to Scotland.
