“Fears of a massive non-dom exodus from the UK have been allayed by initial tax data, which suggests that total numbers leaving the country are in line with — or even below — official forecasts.”

Wait, are you telling me…. the wealth management firms were lying about where the wealth was going? No…

Edit: Literally in the article “Most non-doms receive UK employment or pension income, meaning they are captured in official Pay as You Earn data”.

Funny how all the economic doom mongering seems to have been wrong (see also the thing about there not being a massive sale of farms due to inheritance tax)

I have a friend at work that’s super right wing that keeps talking about the millionaires leaving, I showed him that most of those reports came from a hedge fund management service and that HMRC data showed that it wasn’t happening, but he said that he doesn’t believe it. He feels it’s happening and has spoken to people so that’s what he believes.

This from the ‘facts not feelings’ cheerleader

PAYE non-doms, i.e. those probably more anchored in the UK via employment? What are the stats on the non-dom cohort in terms of PAYE and non-PAYE (CGT etc.), logic would imply nom-doms with PAYE income must be tiny.

We are going to suffer with loads of stories like this, so that taxes are applied to everyday people. Otherwise the Ultra wealthy will leave, happens every time tax rises are needed.

What need to be fixed is the government!! We need real MP that represent us and not their corporate sponsors!

Great, so introduce a wealth tax! Tax the rich and fix our country!

People might have other strategies than leaving the UK immediately (on paper). In the year of departure you can optimise taxes. In many cases you get two tax free allowances. Also, the fact that UK tax year is April to April rather than the calendar year is also a great tool to reduce tax burden. Let’s wait.

If the rich are fleeing this country it just proves that the rich really are hoarding wealth
