President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan filed a lawsuit for 1 million liras of non-pecuniary damages due to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel’s speech at the rally held in Bayrampaşa on 3 August 2025 and his press statement at the exit of Marmara Prison.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s lawyer Hüseyin Aydın made the following statements on his ‘X’ account:

“In the speech made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel at the rally held in Bayrampaşa on 13 August 2025 and in the press statement he made at the exit of Marmara Prison on the same day; Due to his unseemly statements and unfounded accusations targeting our President, a lawsuit for non-pecuniary damages amounting to a total of 1 million TL was filed at the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance. In addition, a criminal complaint has been filed to Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for the offence of insulting the President.”
