Don’t really need the words road policing in the headline…..

Whole road policing culture seems half arsed. Poor resources, lame management, uninterested or frustrated Gardai.

8 weeks to submit a plan of action. 18 months minimum to implement it.

People coasting by in the public sector doing next to nothing? Well I never….

(Obligatory “not a dig at all public sector workers” caveat).

I don’t see how reaching level 40,306 on candy crush can be characterised as “unproductive”?

It’s not like they are wasting the whole day on Reddit

      > A number of gardai were also reported “eagerly” looking forward to retirement.

      No shit, RTE.

People like me who drive a lot for work will not be surprised by this.

Its very common to see Gardai just ignoring many breaches of the law by drivers.

One that annoys me, mainly because its small fish and easy to catch is illegal number plates.

I can bet that if you stop every car with illegal plates, there is a very high chance that they will catch them for multiple other offences. But that would mean work.

Another is breaking red lights. See people clearly break red lights in the view of Gardai, and nothing.

There is a clear cultural issue in the gardai where they are simply refusing to punish drivers for what they believe are minor transgressions.

Perhaps a better approach would be incentives for performance rather than punishments for poor performance? Seeing as they are concerned about union action if disciplinary action is taking.

I don’t actually believe they are afraid of the union, I think they are trying to scapegoat it. This is a case of a failure of management.

Whats incredible is that these are the things the researchers saw while literally being with the Garda themselves. If a Garda is sitting around purposefully ignoring things with someone sat in the car whose literally there to see how you “work” how on earth are they behaving when no one is watching!? Even the ones they observed doing stuff probably do less when no one is around.

Wow… Who would have thought that lazy staff with no oversight by lazy managers would lead to inefficiency?.

It’s almost like lazy staff with no self drive need to be managed properly?.

      Groundbreaking news.

I read the report. It’s only 20 pages and that’s even with consultant padding out, so anyone could skim through it in 5 minutes. It’s really damning – the whole Roads Policing system is a mess. Seems like a lot of the Gardai in it are absolutely useless wasters.

I’ve seen specific road policing Gardai being undertaken by a speeding car on the n81 while the same car went through a light that was turning red and should have stopped…. They didn’t care. We’re too busy heading down to the spawel to swing around to the garage and get coffee or whatever.

      It’s a joke.

Give them commission on it and you’ll see a complete attitude change towards it.
