latest studies show that young people are mostly not willing to fight for their country in most of the Europe. their country’s politics left them with debts, being unable to afford housing or stable living.

Forcing these same people to potentially die for said country will create huge tension in the public. Your country needs to be worth fighting for in the first place.

Here, the pay for joining the army is little nore than a cashier but less than an entry pay for a city cop. You don’t get a free housing (only reduced price), and they got rid of pension bonuses for active duty.

Make it either a financially viable career option, or make your country worth dying for.

    3. Most effective military force will always be professional volunteers. Make it economically viable and attractive and volunteers will come.

German politics and public TV spent 11 years since the beginning of the russian aggression on Ukraine, explaining that it is possible ang good to talk to Russia. I have the feeling that the most part of the german population can not imagine the russian invasion into the EU as the result of it.
16 years long, mommy Merkel was also working on “doesn’t matter what is outside of Germany, we are safe here.”

Didn’t the German government link a shortage of professionals directly to ending military conscription a while ago? The military spends a shit ton on training depending on where you go, which benefits the civilian sectors afterwards – Serving at 18 also cuts crime, as most crime is committed by bored youth, it also helps those from poorer backgrounds get education, and an at least semi decent paying job if they join the professional force afterwards, there’s not really a lot of downsides, especially if they’re only serving a year or so.

Despite what others say, it’s proven conscription helps build the professional force as well, many conscripts will decide to join the professional military afterwards, resulting in an overall recruitment boost.
