*Clogher Valley may not take criminal convictions seriously but at least Ulster Rugby have taken a strong stance on why this guy should not be on the pitch*
On the club’s official Facebook and Instagram pages, Farrell is seen playing and posing for photos. The club stated that the event saw “familiar faces returning to the pitch”.Clogher Valley RFC did not respond to queries, but governing body Ulster Rugby said it did not support Farrell being involved with the event in the wake of his conviction.
A spokesman said: “While we do not have authority over the club’s event schedule, we want to be clear that, in line with our values and our duty of care to players, staff, and supporters, we do not support individuals with serious past convictions being involved in rugby.”
Yeah this sadly doesn’t shock me about the club, but I’m really glad to see Ulster Rugby being firm in their stance against it.
Probably a good time to add a reminder that Bernard Jackman was FC Grenoble’s coach at the time of the rape (2017) that these players were involved in and that when he was later a coach for Bective Rangers, he chose one of those players for his 2021-2022 team. That player, Denis Coulson, was sentenced in December 2024 to 14 years in prison after he was found guilty of the rape that occurred in 2017. Jackman was in a position to know exactly what they all had been involved in but it seemingly didn’t prevent him continuing to support that man. I side eye him every time I see him giving his opinion on RTÉ.
I’m not going to repeat it all here, but the details of what happened to the woman in that hotel in 2017 were horrendous, including (TW:) >!the use of foreign objects during the rape!<.
I’d also be interested to know how Chris Farrell got permission to be in NI, he was supposed to be on an electronic tag & to remain in France for 2 years of his 4 year sentence that he only received last December.
