      >Former ambassador Nebojša Vujović told N1 that during his recent visit to Belgrade, the Austrian Chancellor conveyed to Aleksandar Vučić the European Union’s stance that he should not declare a state of emergency, which would also mean deploying the army onto the streets.

      > He added that the fear of Germany and France lies in the possibility of losing control at home and being unable to put their stamp on the Kosovo and Ohrid agreements, the agreement on lithium and the “Jadar” project, as well as the France–Vučić agreement on nuclear energy and waste.

      >“The essence of the message was – be cautious, don’t make wrong moves, help yourself, and **fulfill what you promised us**. Vučić is facing a scenario similar to that of Milo Đukanović – if he fulfills everything that is asked of him, he has a way out and a safe haven abroad; if not, waves will come that no one can control. Europe, meanwhile, is playing the game solely for itself,” Vujović concluded.

      >According to him, the Western services were aware of Vučić’s intentions, and the messages he received were “harsh, although still politely communicated” – not to use excessive force against students and the media, as this could start a campaign by European media and the public against him and his regime.

EU citizens write your MEPs, media, newspapers start media campaign against Vučić on your own.

    3. So in short be less violent but feel free to continue with corruption, you’ll be OK as long as you deliver what you promised, that being Lithium and Kosovo. The EU has become so disgusting in its behavior that it is depressing
At this rate no one’s gonna be pro EU.
We just had some pro EU activists and supporters openly denounce the EU, I’m worried that absolutely no one will have anything positive to think about it.

Vučić’s methods are very perfidious. He purposely keeps a low profile in the EU, so he can spread the most vicious nationalistic propaganda at home about Serbia’s neighbouring nations and local opposition parties…

Any more r/europe users willing to explain just how EU is NOT supporting Vučić and how we should just not vote for him?

A message to EU politicians: You won’t get your lithium from Serbia 🙂

The serb protesters created a fantasy version of the EU for themselves. There was no reason or history behind it. The EU will never be a unilateral moral enforcer. And it is not set up to openly stand up and denounce close neighbours. Any criticism will appear at the back of some report.

But it has been more cautious than usual with Serbia. Obviously because it doesn’t wish to upset the delicate balances going that keep the peace with Kosovo, EU membership reforms and keeping Serbia away from Russia’s clutches.

Bottom line to the protesters. You’re on your own. This is just one phase of Serbia’s story. Even if you blow up the death star, the empire may strike back. And the EU has to live with all those futures right beside its border. The EU will continue to be cautious.

There’s just one problem – he doesn’t really care about what the EU thinks. He only pretends to do so and will happily take money from EU funds and then use that money for his criminal enterprise, but when it comes to his rule coming to question – he’s going to use the Putler playbook and attempt to literally kill any resistance. The saddest part is the police force who seem to be on his side without much of hesitation. Spineless scum.
Edit: didn’t I read a few days ago that Serbia received some 250-300M to use for some eco-stuff, which everyone knows isn’t what’s the money is going to be used for… so they are supporting him, which is disgusting.

Hypocricy of EU values. Western media should cover this.

Not here to say the protesters are wrong to go out against corruption in high office in Serbia but compared to Turkiye you have it much better, there you got massive crackdown against the opposition expecially in the only liberal city Istanbul.
