“Despite having promised a “reset” with the EU, Keir Starmer’s government has failed to even start closing loopholes in environmental law that have widened since Brexit, and is in some cases choosing to delete EU environmental rules from the statute book.”
Anyone else think that use of “despite” by the guardian is just them baselessly assuming that resetting relations was intended to mean doing the stuff the guardian wanted done anyway? Because I don’t think it ever meant reverting to pre Brexit planning rules, they campaigned pretty heavily on planning reform to spur growth.

Guess which country rushed to make sure water companies could pollute as they wanted right after Brexit?

Didn’t the Labour Govt want to loosen a lot things, including planning regs… And the purse strings to go with it.

Labour had the easiest opportunity to build a dynasty but they have completely fucked it. I’m left leaning but I’ll never vote for these clowns again. So I can’t vote for the Tories and I can’t vote for labour, I’ll never vote reform. I guess I’ll just go fuck myself.

I hate “the circular economy” it’s such a fucking buzzword. The EU law on the circular economy mandates a bit more recycling funded through EPR, at best it’s a tiny circular planned economy.
The biggest issue with the circular economy is that if you, as a customer, ask me as a supplier to take back an unspecified amount of product in an unspecified condition, rework it for you with new technology and then pay me less than it originally cost because no bugger wants to pay full whack for it I er can’t make any money. It’s based on a world where there is no production or design efficiency and everything is just a tiny workshop.

To call it “falling behind” you have to accept The Guardian’s implied premise that there’s an objectively correct direction of travel and that the EU’s is it. The UK and the EU are diverging. The UK isn’t “falling behind”.

I guessed that was the plan? Regulations are bad etc.

You mean UK companies. Not me. I recycle and take showers with rain water. Oh sure, I MAAAAY have avocado toast but I make it home. It’s definitely UK companies doing the damage. Have you seen the Thames lately? Go have a swim. The state it’s in isn’t because of me!
