Non riesco letteralmente a trovare nulla su di lei, tranne per il fatto che era un politico di carriera, almeno niente di interessante o di impatto. Perché in nome di Dio è candidata alla presidenza?

She’s the one responsible for raising the retirement age to 66.

Coincidentally, she retired at 64 “to spend more time with my family.”

She vouched for Helen McEntee to be Minister for Justice even when it became obvious she was out of her depth

The presidential race is less Áras an Uachtaráin, more Lidl on a Sunday evening.

Catherine Connolly is the only one through the checkout.

Fine Gael are dithering between Heather Humphreys and Sean Kelly, both the generic brands you grab when the good stuff is gone.

Fianna Fáil are dusting off Mary Hanafin and Deirdre Heenan like tins from the back of the cupboard.

Gareth Sheridan is shiny packaging in the bargain bin, Flatley is the flashy import that looks great on the shelf but goes off fast, Peter Casey is the product nobody wanted the first time and Conor McGregor is outside the shop shouting through the window.

Pushed thru a few church of Ireland schools in Cavan/Monaghan before retiring. At a time where we should be going for educate together etc and removing the church from education. Make zero sense but kept the wealthy Protestant voting base happy in the region. That FG agriculture/protestant seat will always be safe in Cavan/monaghan. This has nothing to do me with being anti-any religion by the way.

She was in charge of pension auto-enrollment and free primary school meals.

Think she once had 10 pints of Beamish in about 4 hours once in West Cork

Don’t vote for a member of fffg for President and you won’t go wrong

This might be the LSD, but that is a creepy forced smile.

Go for a hike, enjoy the scneray, take a few photos that way. Much more vote-inviting.

My family in monaghan would tell you she fixed the roads and helped them get planning permission (seriously)

I have an interest in politics and I would struggle to recognise her if she sat down opposite me. She is firmly in the making up the numbers category of ministers.

Senior politician with some high profile briefs. In politics for 20 years and accomplished more than anyone in the opposition in that time. Asking people to detail achievements is pretty difficult any requires you to put in some effort. the below is just some but as you can imagine, there’s plenty more: Creative Ireland Programme, Our Rural Future, Pension Reform, Child Maintenance Reforms, Hot School Meals, Brexit and COVID business supports, Culture 2025, Social Protection Cost-of-Living supports.

I wouldn’t vote for her but she’s obviously done some work like it or not.

Heather Humphreys weeks into her career as a cabinet minister she abused her statutory powers to install a party member on a board to burnish his credentials for election, the excuse given was that she instructed to do so by her party leader which then implies she is incapable of carrying out her duties without separating herself from her party which is exactly is what is required of a President.

Run of the mill FG drone. She was fortunate to serve as a minister in Departments with large budgets such as Social Protection or one like Rural and Community Affairs that divvied out grants, often on politically expedient and clientelist lines. Always played it safe and toed the FG party line above any other consideration.

All that doused in a folksy, squawking, Mary O’Rourke-style, mother knows best shtick.

That’ll be a hard no from me.

My first thought was that she was Minister for Justice. That’s one of the most high profile and difficult briefs. While you can pad the CV of middling careerists in lesser roles, there’s no hiding in that one. She got it because leadership trusted her to handle it well.

You don’t need to like her, nor any policies she pursued (others have listed several that any minister would be proud to be associated with, though), but dismissing her as a no mark is pretty preposterous.

She’s a senior FG figure with a CV she can run on. She’ll likely not get my vote (hoping Eastwood runs personally – YMMV), but she’s a substantive candidate. And after Miggledy, both main parties would be glad of a less outspoken President.

Thought she was good regarding brexit and she appears to align with me more compared to Catherine Connoly foreign policy wise so unless someone better comes along she gets my vote.

    19. Roscommunist16 on

She has never been Michael Flatley, Conor McGregor or Tony Holohan. This is the bar she must clear.

She appears to be highly effective at petting oul wans on the head.

      SEND HER TO THE OFFICE!!!!!!

Cocneieved the auto enrollment so all workers will have a pension. Should be in place and will have a lasting impact in decades to come.

She also increased the amount of social welfare you get if you lose your job. So for a period, if you had enough PRSI contributions you could get €450 instead of €250 or whatever the dole rate is. That’s fair. You get more of your tax to support you when you need it.

There’s far too many in the media talking up candidates because they like the individual on a personal level. That has nothing to do with their suitability for presidency.

Heather Humphries is one such person. Sean Kelly is another.
