So nice from the danish gov to give the taxes directly to the retailers

If grocery chains lower their prices by the tax amount, (as the two largest chains has promised), it will be roughly 1/10 to 1/20th price reduction.

Not much considering these “luxury goods” has increased by some 30-50% in the past two years.

The debate in Denmark is “health personel” warning cheaper sugar products will increase the risk of obesity and bad teeth. I am not sure it will matter that much considering the overall inflationary prices these products has experienced. A little less expensive from an already very expensive product is not changing behavior for people, that can remember what those products would cost just 5 years ago.

Price is also not the only determing factor for peoples shopping habits. Public awareness and cultural shifts mean more for changing attitude long term.

Now taking bets on how much of this actually makes way to prices instead of pockets of the store owners..

These are non-essential foods. Other countries are putting up sugar tax in hopes to combat obesity, yet these guys are going backwards.

Denmark generally seems to be an extremely well governed nation, I am envious

IMO, Scrapping taxes on luxury goods is a stupid way of helping the average household, much less a poor one.

If you want to ease pressure on households, target household tax under a certain limit or their energy tax.

But I am guessing that this is just political theatre and not actually meant to help people; it’s most likely just to buy votes.

These things will NEVER change anything since companies will raise their prices longterm to fill the gap.

why lower taxes on luxuries rather than on essentials this is nonsensical

Taxes on everything should go down. Reduce goverment spending.

Help me understand: being one of the wealthiest nations in the world, is it necessary and how does that help families
