      >The Italian Deputy Prime Minister has strongly criticised the French President, while the latter intends to send European troops as reinforcements.

      >

      >The Italian Ambassador to France, Emanuela D’Alessandro, was summoned on Thursday 21 August to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris, after saying “unacceptable”of the Italian government’s number two, Matteo Salvini, against Emmanuel Macron. This is what France Inter and the international editorial team of Radio France learned on Friday, August 22, from concordant sources.

      >

      >In recent days, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has made virulent remarks against Emmanuel Macron, mainly in connection with the position of the French President on support for Ukraine and European defence. On Wednesday 20 August, in a speech, he strongly criticized the French President for his support for [sending troops to Ukraine](https://www.franceinfo.fr/monde/europe/manifestations-en-ukraine/guerre-en-ukraine-quatre-questions-sur-le-possible-envoi-de-troupes-europeennes-de-maintien-de-la-paix-propose-notamment-par-emmanuel-macron_7095765.html). “Italian soldiers in Ukraine ? Absolutely not. If Emmanuel Macron wants to, let him go himself. Put on a helmet, take a rifle and go to Ukraine yourself.”

      >The words ‘against the climate of trust’ between France and Italy

      >According to a diplomatic source, joined by France Inter, at the time of the convening of the Italian ambassador at the Quai d’Orsay, “it was reminded that these remarks were contrary to the climate of trust and the historical relationship between our two countries”. According to this source, the same remarks undermine the “recent bilateral developments, which have shown strong convergences between the two countries, particularly with regard to unfailing support for Ukraine”.

      >Contacted by the international editorial office of Radio France on Friday, neither Italian diplomacy nor the services of the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, wanted to react. This is not the first time that Matteo Salvini, close to [Marine Le Pen](https://www.franceinfo.fr/politique/marine-le-pen/) verbally attacks Emmanuel Macron in his support for Ukraine. On 7 March 2025, during a visit to Milan, he had treated the French President of “crazy”, accusing him of pushing Europe to war with Russia.

I have no clue what the Italian government is trying to achieve, as even for Meloni herself, she had no problem to relay misinformation about France.

Salvini is a traitor and must be excluded from politics for good. His party is dangerous for Italy and Europe and must be disbanded.

Guess we are hitting the point, when ukraine support becomes a problem for national and domestic EU politics.
Feels like politicans start to realize, that the US is not going to help in long terms, most countries and putin don’t want EU troops in Ukraine and the only option is, to pump like a trillion € over the next 10 years into ukraines defense. But they don’t really want to pay for that either. 😀

Did he say to Macron to go fight the war himself in the vanguard or something like this? Full support to the guy,
